Thirty-nine years ago today, a series of seven or so tornadoes swept through Louisville, ripping trees up from the ground and tearing houses apart. We spent the day in the basement, riding out the storm.

Nothing happened in our neighborhood, but I later had a classmate over to work on a school project and all he wanted to do was walk down the street because it was so tree-lined and his own neighborhood had been stripped bare.

Right now, the sky is black as night overhead with a glimmer of light on the horizon to the southwest. A storm is sitting on top of us, but yet everything is oddly quiet. Lightning is flashing occasionally. And there's a greenish tinge to the light, which is said to be associated with tornadoes. Hope this isn't a repeat of 40 years ago.

Ruth Prawer Jhabvala has died. Really enjoyed her screenplays for "Room with a View" and "Mr. and Mrs. Bridge" as well as some of her novels.

I love love love"A Room With A View"!

So do I...and my sister does, too!

From DR Vixmom:

I was really worked up about this standing up and yelling  - then I woke up and realized I was actually standing up and actually yelling

Oh my, to actually be standing up and yelling.  I expect you weren't as loud as it felt since you didn't wake anyone.

After what you went through I can understand your having the dream.

Hi everyone:

I will tell you a little about myself.  I love to sing and play guitar, enjoy old movies especially with Betty Davis, Joan Crawford and Greer Garson.  My favorite male actor is Jimmy Stewart. Favorite Musical is Les Mis.  My favorite tv show is Scandal.

I love to write religious songs.  Would love to visit Italy and Paris.

Take care,
Kate

You will most, if not all, of us enjoy old movies.   My husband, Keith, & I recently watched a the wonder RANDOM HOUSE with Greer Garson.

Loved Milo O'Shea in most anything, but especially in James Joyce's Ulysses. Not a perfect film of the novel, but as good as we're ever likely to get and he was all sorts of wonderful in it.

Have you seen BLOOM with my close personal friend Stephen Rea?
I have not. Must see it.

Bike ride finished - the day can commence

I read that too quickly as "the day can romance." My thought was, great, if it wants to.

"Hello, Dolly!"

Watched this one night before last and was enthralled with how beautiful the Blu ray transfer is.

This film has grown on me through the years.  As Gene Kelly's widow said in the "Remembering Gene Kelly" extra, "Dolly" has proven to have legs.

I do not enjoy reading two books at once.  I was going to finish my library book before reading the draft of our friend's novel.  I'm only on page 60 while Keith is on page 100.  I must catch up to Keith because he keeps telling me what is happening and I want to experience it all fresh.

I was hoping for a weather update from DR John G.

VIBES ALL IS WELL!!!
Huge downpour with plenty of fireworks and cymbals crashing in the sky. And blustery winds that were really strong. But it's backed off a bit now. It's a little lighter, though it still looks like it's just before sundown (four hours before that is to happen).

And we'll take the rain.

Good to see you, Mr. Pulliam.

I agree with you. I enjoy moments in the movie more than I ever have, and I think that, by and large, it is the best sung "Dolly" there is, thanks to Streisand.

Favorite Musical is Les Mis.
Not sure if you will see this post but did you see the new movie? I just watched the dvd a few days ago and really liked it. It is amazing that they could find some big named stars that could sing so well. I really enjoyed Hugh Jackman. The only star whose voice was not right for his role was russell Crowe. He actually acted well and is not a bad singer. His voice just did not sound at all like how I want Javert to sound.  One person I did enjoy a lot in the movie was the guy who played Marius. He was exactly how I picture Marius looking and sounding.

I thought I'd posted, but the morning has been wacky, to say the least.  A Time for Singing did arrive today but the helper, after waiting for two and a half hours near the mail place, left - it got there ten minutes later, so she won't get to shipping that until the morning - irritating.  I did a three-mile jog, and then had to make arrangements to get a tape transferred that will give us another track for our next release - the cue was missing from the previous release and wasn't on the tapes, but they had a D/M/E on the title (separate dialogue, music, and effects) so we can pull it from there and we'll have the complete score for the first time.

Glad to see Ron Pulliam back - over at the Home Theater Forum there are three people nitpicking and knocking the Dolly transfer, which is just shocking.  Heaven knows how they are viewing, but the stuff they're talking about is so ridiculous and simply is either a product of the production itself, opticals, but nothing to do with the transfer, which is exemplary.  It's just amazing to me, but I'm setting the record straight repeatedly, and Matt H loved it as did a 70mm expert.  Then they say they prefer Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang as a transfer - that transfer is excellent save for it's way too brown color.  This one has perfect color.
