Sad news about Ebert. I generally enjoyed reading his reviews, even when I disagreed with his opinions.

Same here.

And what a shock, following his announcement just a couple of days ago about the upcoming transitions.

How sad, the news says that Roger Ebert passed away today. I was just earlier this morning reading an interview with him about how his cancer had come back.

 :'(

I just read about that, too.

Coincidence - I don't think so:  EXORCISTIC: A ROCK MUSICAL

When a cash-strapped theatre company decides to capitalize on the 40th Anniversary of the theatrical release of “the Exorcist” with a parody rock opera, they unleash Hell.

OPEN FIST
June 2013
Directed by Ken Sawyer

Why do I think that Mr. Sawyer and compatriots have seen a little web series.  I will have a field day with this in June.

I guess people know my admiration for Stritch .  I even had "stritchfan" as my twitter handle until my twiiter was hacked [amid the online nonsense, it seems] and lost as my handle last October.

If it's Ok, here's my salute to Stritch - which I put yesterday afternoon way down in the comments box under Stephen Holden's  Times article, the article which is at:
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/03/a-notable-audience-for-elaine-stritch-at-the-carlyle/

Tune of I Never Know When to Say When -
based a bit loosely on Mr. Holden's touching, insight-filled article, though of course Mr. Holden is obliged to deal with what he sees as the flaws for benefit of people paying the very high prices at the Carlyle for the rest of the run

[Stritch]
I’m having fun in here
A well-sold run in here
Look by the bar, seems every star knows I’m not done in here
They hang on every turn of phrase, every rhyme
That says there’s never a time to call time

I may not toe a line
And I may blow a line
But they don’t jeer, I make them cheer when I forego a line
If I get controversial, it’s so sublime
No, there is never a time to call time
No getting old ain’t no crime
There’s never a time to call time

That's wonderful, Fred!  I love it!

We saw the marvelous "Passion" at Clasic Stage last night.  Elmore's friend Rob Berman, who I've  gotten to meet at dinner with him,  did a spectacular job conducting, and I hope elmore got to see the show.

Melissa Errico was out  unfortunately.  But Judy Kuhn lived up to the great memories of her Kennedy center oerformance, and Ryan Silverman made me wish I could afford to fly to oregon to see him in "Somewhere in Time" - he is that good.  And such a featured cast - Steve Bogardus, Jeffry denma, Ken Krugman,  and we're right on top of them, like in theior living room the way John Doyle set it up, really meant to be PASSION in-your-face!  In a good way.

Amy Justman  did very very nicely. quite a fine compelling actress.  Of course she is the understudy for both Fosca and Clara because she is so incredibly flexible that she could do either part.   Would love to go back and see Melissa Errico, but it seems to be sold out for the run.

I'd love to see it, but I can't, of course.  At least I've preordered the CD. :)

From DR TCB:
Quote
Back in the mid-seventies, one of the local radio stations in Seattle interviewed one of the executives of the Altoid Company who was visiting Seattle.  The reason he gave for his visit was that when they were calculating their world-wide sales; they discovered that the City of Seattle ranked as the third biggest sales market of all the countries in the world.  So they had sent him here to find out how that was possible.  The reason he found was that when the coffee market exploded in Seattle, people started looking for something to cure coffee breath at work.  Someone stumbled upon Altoids and several coffee chains (i.e. Starbucks) began stocking them at the cash registers of all their stores.  Thus started the Altoid fever in the United States.

Interesting and funny.

Last night we watched the first half of "Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan.  I'm sure many DR's, especially DR MBarnum, will enjoy the documentary.

It airs again on Sunday at 11:00 AM PDT on the Sony HD station.

Someone on that site we don't mention here posted the following link to a half-hour version of Songs from "The Grass Harp."

Several of the original cast are featured. Wish the whole show had been filmed. But it's good to have this.

That's pretty cool!

People we don't mention?  Sites we don't name?

This is starting to sound like attending the annual Talkin Broadway "we reserve the right to only accept the people we want, white sheet and swastika optional" party

In New York, Talkin Broadway excludes people who have pending civil rights suits - and their gay partners and their relatives who have nothing to do with those suits - from their parties.

And this is on West 54th Street in the heart of Broadway in New York City.  Not Georgia.
