I am not sure if you will see this. But my personal problem with Russell Crowe in LES MIS (and I talked to a good friend who is obsessed with LES MIS and he thought the same thing) is that his voice just did not sound right.

I thought that Russell Crowe had a better singing voice than what I was expecting. And he acted the part well IMO. But he does not have the right voice for Javert. We are used to a certain powerful voice. And Russell Crowe was just distracting to me.

It was great to get a big name. And he was very capable of acting the role. Maybe if the movie wasn't sung through then it wouldn't have been such an issue.

I thought the same of Hugh Jackman.

Back from the author luncheon, which was a huge success! Martha Moody was a very good speaker and responded well to some great questions. There was a good mix of AAUW members and non (but prospective) members. The meal at country club #1 was quite mediocre.

I have a VERY busy rest of the weekend. Today, I have to usher downtown for the Washington Center for the Performing Arts' open house for Olympia's ArtsWalk (what was I thinking??). But first, I have to get downtown and find parking! That's going to be a nightmare.

Then tomorrow, we have our final performance of "Reservoir Dogs" and strike. Fortunately, that will go quite easily. The only set pieces are a couple of boxes and a ramp and a door. The hardest part will be having to clean up all the fake blood from under the ramp, and then we have to paint the walls of the space black. We painted the very small theater a kind of grey and we have to get it back to its original color. Then, cast party!

I'm sorry to learn he has been ill. The warmer temps should help as well. I have had bronchitis so many times I can't keep count. Tell him to sleep as elevated as he can tolerate. It really does help.

I've never eaten in Subway. I used to notice them when travelling in various countries and about 10 years ago they opened in the U.K. Someday soon perhaps I'll make the big step and try them out

I'm not big on chain restaurants. That said, I do feel that Panera is one of the better ones, although keeping up quality control on both food and service is a problem there, too. I also like Souplantation, but am still miffed that they closed the location I used to frequent.

I saw a few minutes of your interview, JRand, and thought you did quite well. There's a young woman who does interviews on an Internet site and REALLY DOES move her arms around too much. I couldn't watch her. She flaps all over the place. I'm afraid she'll hit something. No, Jack, YOU were just fine!

I was very impressed with the guy who played Marius. And re: Hugh Jackman other than the fact that he is a big name I see little comparison between him and Russell Crowe. Hugh Jackman is a broadway performer with an amazing voice.

More and more restaurants are offering gluten-free options. Nice to see this. I buy both Food for Life and Udi's gluten-free breads. They're both very good, IMO. Very good = you wouldn't know they're gluten-free.

Her first 3 are kind of "chick" books - very character-driven and relationship-oriented. Her newest, which I bought today, is futuristic, set in Dayton. One of the characters is a history professor who delivers a lot of historical background. My book group liked her first, BEST FRIENDS, very much.
