I am curious, one of my niece's names is Megan, which we pronounce May-gan. That is how I hear everyone here pronounce it.

But every time I hear someone in the US pronounce it they say Meh-gan.

She heard someone on tv pronounce it the second way and it freaked her out.

I've heard a lot of people in the US say it the other way. My niece had never heard it that way and wondered why they were saying it wrong.

We say Meh - gan in NY

In Ny  we also pronounce Deidre as Deer DRAH whereas my Brit born husband and everyone of the BBC  seem to say  Deer DREE how do you say it in Canada?

I would say it Dee-dra.   But have heard it Deer-drah a lot.  Although that is not a very common here (don't know anyone named that).

Yah I would say Ber nard too.

I don't know why (maybe because I saw the name so much). But I have a very hard time saying it Meh-gan. It is so much easier to say it the other way.

I say it Jen-if-fur

you can take out the first f. But it is the sound that i sound that goes with if. Just not sure how to write it.
