I saw Company and A Little Night Music  in college productions -  Company  became a favorite immediately =  a Little Night Music  I only learned to love recently -  perhaps I was too young for it then

Into The Woods we saw  on Broadway with my inlaws and my parents in December  1987 we absolutely loved it  - years later my  MIL gave me a DVD of the OBC - the family tradition is that we watch it  while we set up the Christmas tree

Sweeney Todd did not grab me immediately but after the  Johnny Depp movie came out  I watched the DVD  with Angela Landsbury and had a greater appreciation for it

Thanks to BK and The East Coast Singer for a very nice evening.  I had a delicious Panini at Busboys and Poets, the restaurant the group went to before the show.  And I enjoyed Follies very much.  It was the first time seeing it live. I've seen the Raul Esparza version on DVD.

Umm...Kevin?  "Company," not "Follies."

 ;)

Thanks for the correction, George!!  And I did enjoy Follies, especially the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre version!

I forget who played Ben in that production. ;)

I did not see Sunday in the Park live but I saw the Mandy Patankin version on video or DVD -- again it just didn't grab me although I know it is a great favorite of many here --- perhaps I should give that another go as well

I loved the recent production of Follies - Who's That Woman had me openly weeping -and I had to restrain myself so that I would not audibly sob, I was so moved

I interviewed one of the stars of this film, Frank Griffin, some years back. One of my all time favorite interviewees (he is the brother of Debra Paget, Teala Loring, and Lisa Gaye).

Ah yes, one of the great theatrical family dynasties.

SHOCK is exactly the reaction I had when I heard the news about Gandolfini on the car radio less than an hour ago.  (I hadn't been around any news all evening.)  There's just nothing else to say about it.

Shock, man.

T.O.D.

My first exposure to Sondheim was the film of WEST SIDE STORY, followed by the movie version of GYPSY.  I loved both of them and I loved the music but I never knew the connection with Sondheim.  WSS was a Bernstein musical and GYPSY was Jule Styne.  When I saw  Forum (the film) I thought it was horrible.  So my first Sondheim revelation was EVENING PRIMROSE, but I felt like I was the only person in the world who watched it.  None of my theater friends had stayed up to watch, nor had my drama teacher, so it was like I had seen this "miracle" that no one else knew about.
