I guess kids today wouldn;t get the party line aspect of PILLOW TALK, but there are some fanciful aspects of LOVER COME BACK, too.

i love when Doris Day is shocked that she's asked to sing another chorus.  :)

One of the things my family used to love to do was visit the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina.  All during my childhood, my folks would drive us up to the mountains (it was a treat in the Summer, believe me!).   One of my earliest forays into the mountains was a family affair (father's side).  Here is a picture of me with cousins.  Left to right, Vivian Davis, Jimmy Pulliam, Joyce Oliver and me:

Jimmy died young.  He was hit by a car crossing the road from his family's mailbox back to his house.  I don't recall how old he was, but it was a couple of years after this photo.  All the rest of us are alive and kicking.

Speaking of PILLOW TALK, it's been at least a week since the NY Times Critics Pick on LOVER COME BACK has been linked here.

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/03/critics-picks-lover-come-back/

Is it generally felt that LOVER COME BACK has held up even better than PILLOW TALK, if anyone knows such things.

I've always enjoyed LOVER COME BACK more than PILLOW TALK.

BK,

Are the Bruin and the Village theaters still there?

It's been many years...even before I left Los Angeles...that I had been in Westwood.

If not, what's there now?

TOD:

All of the wonderful movie theaters and great restaurants that I frequented in Seattle during the 1950s-early 1960s are now gone.

 :'(

It's one of the major reasons why I have no desire to go back there.

We had a wonderful dinner of pesto, whole wheat pasta, and sauteed vegetables last night. We just substituted nutritional yeast flakes for the cheese when making the pesto, and we were good to go. The flavor isn't quite as sharp as with the cheese, but honestly, you can hardly tell the difference!

Keith loves yeast on his popcorn.  I'm not a fan but it would be interesting to try in pesto.

I'm off to a meeting which includes some lunch.  Then to drop off my turntable to be fixed and a visit to my storage facility.  Also, to record a quick piano version of "People Will Say We're in Love" for this wedding/cruise thing next week.  The couple met during a production of Oklahoma.  Their choice of song, not mine.  Anyway, that's my day and I'm sticking to it.

MR BK the phone number on the matchbook cover of Kiru was DU-5 ...  What did the DU stand for?

The same as my father's office number which was just down the street from the Kiru.

I took cat Freddy to the vet on Friday and he was put through all kinds of tests, pokes, and prods. He has gone from 13 lbs to 7 lbs over the last year but the tests did not show anything out of the ordinary as far as kidney problems, thyroid, and what not.

The doctor suspects cancer is likely, but as Fred is 14 years old, not much sense in tormenting the poor guy with more tests, not to mention the nasty treatments.

Doc gave me some pills to help with his appetite, and so that has improved. He won't drink water out of his dish any longer. Nor will he drink out of the toilet (which had become his favorite drinking spot over the last few months, for some reason). Fred will now only drink out of the bathroom sink faucet. Very odd.

Anyway, thank you all for the vibes.

Better the sink than the toilet.  I'm glad the meds helped with his appetite.  I'm guessing prednisolone is one of them.

VIBES TO DC FREDDY AND TO YOU!!

I prefer "That Touch of Mink" to all the other Doris Day movies of that era.

Yes Bruce, it was a fun trip back in time.  I noticed on FB you had photos from POP but I wasn't permitted to comment.  I should probably join the the POP group.

Do you have other mementos from the Kiru?  Lunch at the Kiru with my father was always a treat.

Now I'm on hold waiting to cancel the repair person, unless they already know they fixed the problem.  A phone call would have been nice.

BK, it will be intersting to see if anyone finds there way to HHW because they decided to reminisce about the old days and googled your dad's restaurant.
