Disturbing news on the book store front, pulled from Yahoo Business::

Quote
"The last nationwide book retailer may be writing its final chapter. Barnes & Noble's latest quarterly results show a 7.4% drop in revenues and a $122 million loss for the fourth-quarter of its fiscal year. B&N's disastrous focus on making Nook e-Readers is weighing heavily on the chain's operations. A 17% drop in Nook revenues and stunning $475 million loss for the device division in 2013 are hobbling the company's ability to keep its stores afloat. B&N appears to be cannibalizing itself with branded tablets and cross-platform e-reader applications, which render the stores increasingly irrelevant."

I saw the news about Barnes and Noble the other day.  The problem is more that their readers are readers and don't do well if you want more.

I love the reader, am frustrated with the software.

I have set up most everything on my new Nook.  I can't remember how to add a second email address.  Otherwise it is definitely working better.  Unfortunately the problem with my B & N wish list is still there.  Books I have purchased won't go away.

I am home from Joshie's rehearsal.  He's done a very nice job with THE CRADLE WILL ROCK, which will never be a score that I like.

I love that agitprop stuff. And this is such a good cast. Do you know if there's talk of a recording?

I was going to relax tonight and watch a movie without doing anything else. That never happened.

Came home to news that a former coworker, someone from the newspaper's research department who'd always helped us out, died today from cancer.

Then the phone has been going non-stop.

Yikes! :o Our library bought 60, count 'em, 60 Nook e-readers to circulate to the public.  That just started on June 3rd.  I wonder how that'll affect our Nooks. :-\

Well, I must be off.  I have to do a little shopping, then a little laundry at home.  I'm working concessions tomorrow night and I need to have some clean clothes.

Until later.

We made it through about half of Act II before the warning sirens at the golf course (where these outdoor musicals are held) signaled the impending arrival of the thunderstorms.  But all in all, not bad, because it was a small house anyway due to the weather, and all parties got just enough of what they needed to deem the night a success.  Of course, with this weather pattern we're in, the same thing could happen both tomorrow and Saturday, our final two nights.

It was way more comfortable than it's been, due to the overcast and the breezes -- but oddly, though I didn't have to swat anything away from my person, the gnats (which hadn't been around the entire past week) were going crazy around the keyboards and stand lights.  I had gnats smeared all over everything without even trying to swat or smash them.  Just playing the music did it.  I hope too many didn't get in between the keys.

Thanks, George and ChasSmith. I didn't mention that my friend was a she. Kelly worked for ages in San Antonio and this past year went to work for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where two of my best friends work. They quickly found out they had a mutual friend in me. Bill and Laurie were the ones who alerted me to the news earlier.

It makes me wonder if Kelly knew something the whole time, and that was why she had moved to Atlanta, which is where her folks live.

Finished with my viewing early - so don't know what I'll do with the rest of the evening.  I've been having a fun PM volley with Miss Amaryllis herself, Monique Vermont - trying to see if we can get her here for the August Kritzerland show, which is Meredith Willson and Gene de Paul.

I've got the air on, but it's too cold.  So, I'll turn it off and in ten minutes it will be too hot - thus this day.

And what about food?  I've had my bacon and eggs and a Skinny Cow cone - with the jog, all in, I'm only at 650 calories.  So, I could do a Subway, I suppose, or something more fun, although what would be more fun is anyone's guess - the one thing it won't be is Gelson's.
