There are now a couple of Smashburgers 45 minutes away, and I've wanted to try them anyway.  Thanks, DR John G., because it's actually great to be able to look forward to some french fries as well.  And when was the last time that ever happened?

EDIT:  I'm looking at their website.  Man, I want to try everything!  :o

Hmmm.....tomorrow's not exactly impossible, either.

I feel bad for the lawyer.  I expect the lawyer & his wife are no longer friends with the tweeter.

That was a harsh (and understandable) finality to Rowling's assessment of the firm.

Yes and sad.  I wonder what the legal consequences will be to the lawyer.  I was impressed the spoil sport's tweet account was closed, but then am I wrong thinking "tweet" shut her down?

Well, the new copies of the UK The Cuckoo's Calling have flooded the market and all those eBay sellers who were praying they'd be first editions are done for - they say "Reprinted (twice).  So, now they all have to say "first edition, later printing" which is, of course, nonsense.  Once a book goes into a subsequent printing it is not a first edition.  But these people aren't really dealers so what do they know.  It's also interesting that UK firsts seem to have topped out - there are two up with Buy it Now on them - they've been unsold for two days and the price is just around a thousand.  Also, a bunch of dealers who were clearly stating the first edition only had a run of 1500 have stopped saying that - because from the get-go what the publisher was saying was it had SOLD only about that number - that doesn't mean the number of books printed was that number.  However, anything under 5,000 will keep it a rarity that will either hold where it is or eventually go up if she continues to write this series, which she says she is.  There are tons of UK firsts now on eBay, few with Buy It Now, just hoping it will go insane in the last minutes of those auctions.  It will be interesting to see where they end up.  The bids range from a couple hundred to about six hundred, but I would be surprised if any closed at those prices.  Meanwhile, the ABE still has almost no copies at all and they've sold several at 1500, which is why those 1,000 copies with Buy it Now not selling is kind of interesting.  There is also a signed copy up at a more reasonable price - just over two, but that seller took away the Buy It Now option, so no one will be getting that.  I'd like to know just how many she signed.

The official publication date was April 30, 2013.  The library where I work placed our order for four copies on March 26, 2013.  That means we got the official first edition!  HOWEVER, they've been stamped and "libraried," so they're not "collectible" at all.

Hello Everyone:

TOD:

I still love grilled cheese sandwiches and creamed tuna on toast.

I know you can get a grilled cheese sandwich still but i never see creamed tuna on toast.

My favorite is still Hot fudge Sundae.

Hello, everyone.

BLUESETTE has always been a favorite of mine. Yes, nice job, BK. I appreciate BK's fine diction, too.

I'm surprised Bruce knows about the Piece o' Pizza near me. I've never eaten in that one, but I drive by it frequently. I'm surprised it has survived.

Perhaps Jeanne will finally leave her home environment and meet me at the Piece o' Pizza.  If I had said "Had a piece lately" to her back in 1962 when we met she would have hit me.

Back from picking up one package that arrived right after I left before.  So, now tonight I can watch the new Brian de Palma film Passion, unreleased in the US and already on Blu and Ray overseas - does not bode well, but we shall see.

Twitter would not have shut her down. And nothing she wrote was incorrect.

I remember THE MAGIC PAN. I didn't go there frequently, but was sorry to see them go. I've looked for a good crepe place here. There are a couple, but nothing outstanding. Of course, the Farmer's Market place is fun just because it's in Farmer's Market.

I used to love The Magic Pan.  I remember the spinach soufflé and ratatouille crepes and a vanilla ice cream, chocolate and coconut dessert crepe.  Delicious!

TOD 2: I miss really good old-fashioned ice cream sodas, especially the kind with cherries and vanilla ice cream, a squirt of syrup and soda water.

Listening to a new Kritzerland project, that will most likely end up a two CD set.  What great music it is, sounding really kind of amazing for films over sixty years old.  This project celebrates one film director at one studio with scores by two composers (one composer represented by one score and the other composer represented by four scores).  This is something I fought to do and am thrilled it's come out so well.  The score that would open disc one needs some sequencing care because the film sequence just doesn't quite work, but I think I figured that out - swapping four tracks for a more pleasant listening experience.

DR Chas, your Lawry's link included an old favorite of mine, Zito's. It was on Pico Blvd, a few blocks west of Westwood. A neighboring Italian family took me there when I was maybe ten years old and I fell in love with their food. That is where I developed a taste for really tangy Italian salad dressing. I do miss that place!

I tried to buy The Washington Post at the Metro station this morning, but the door of the newspaper machine wouldn't open.  My five quarters came out when I pushed the button, though.  Then I got to DC and tried to use another machine.  This time I only got three quarters back.  Then I looked at the "quarters" and saw that one of them was a 10 pence coin I had left over from my trip to England.  I don't know if the other two coins were quarters or not!   In my defense, the coins are the same size.
