TOD: I don't remember my first Broadway show. We lived an hour from NYC by train, and my parents first started taking me when I was around 14. I definitely saw A Chorus Line several times, as well as Annie and the revival of The King and I, both of which opened in 1977. I saw Evita after it opened the next year. I remember treating each of these occasions as a near-religious experience, and poring over every word of the programs (including the ads) for weeks afterward.

I also remember attending the out-of-town tryout of Ballroom in Stratford, CT - that would have been 1977 or 1978. I loved it, and was so disappointed the the cast album came out missing some of the songs we had heard there. What a surprise and delight to discover them again, years later, when bk unearthed them on one of his "Lost in Boston" albums.

The first show I saw was a touring company of Fiddler On The Roof with Paul Lipson. The first shows I saw on Broadway were all in one weekend and I don't remember the order but they were Chicago (the original cast with the exception of Chita Rivera), The Magic Show (with one OC member Dale Soules) and Pippin with Michael Rupert in the title role

Apparently my 4 year old niece would not sleep in the dark. She kept screaming every time her night light (batteries? that work for 15 minutes at a time) went off. So nobody really slept well.

Wonderful notes re the plays and shows in L.A. Hearing about what BK used to be able to take for granted makes me want to cry.

Those theaters. And that Joel Grey / Julie Newmar STOP THE WORLD just takes the cake. Damn it. Damn it all to hell.

I remember being very disappointed because the rabbit never came on stage.

About 5 years later, the national company of OKLAHOMA!

Good morning, all!

I'm thinking about getting a ticket for an early showing of THE CONJURING and having a good ol' scary time. I'll see if any of the apartment building's ghosts want to come with me.

My first show was the national tour of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, around 1962, followed by the national tour of CAMELOT, at Cincinnati's Shubert Theatre. I saw many wonderful things there. All of my playbills and souvenir programs from 1962-1972 were destroyed in a fire in my family's home in late September 1972. Wish I had them.

One of the first I saw was a tour of Side by Side by Sondheim that starred Hermione Gingold. I did not stay for an autograph. This is a copy found on eBay.
