Gads, DR Jane. Is there any danger of the fires themselves approaching your neighborhood, or are they further off?

Grants Pass, the town closest to the fires is 45 minutes away.  Of course we worry about lightning strikes during this time of year. 

The fires combined are now up to 39,000 acres.

[Jane]

I don't envy you, DR Jane. I can remember when I was a kid living down there and how smokey it could get...and back then it wasn't just from the fires, but also combined with all of the lumber mills in the area. 100 % pollution! There were days where you could not see the house across the street due to the smoke.

I've heard about that, in fact was warned about it before we moved here.  We had trouble explaining to people that the air quality had improved since then.  So far it isn't that bad here, ugly but not what you described-yuck.

Sorry to hear about the continued smoke, Jane. I do hope it clears soon.

Thanks.  An article in the paper, which I only read the headline, said "the smoke is here to stay".

I guess since it's August, it's time to start thinking of Christmas. I just heard the first rumor of who will be playing the office Christmas party this year: ZZ Top. We'll see.

I am home from a very interesting afternoon at the NYPL. Imogene Coca played "Baby Face" in the tryout of GOWNS BY ROBERTA at the Forrest Theater, Philadelphia, Oct. 21-November 4, 1933. At some point, before the Broadway opening on Nov. 18, she was written out when the entire first scene was torn apart and rebuilt.

Back from some chicken tenders and picking up no packages including the overdue ones.  I'm a day away from getting refunds on everything overdue - when one does that via paypal, the money is immediately deducted from that seller's account - it's kind of the only thing they truly understand - no communication and one must act as one must.

I'd love to revive (and revise as necessary) "Nick & Nora."  I don't know who would be cast, though.  Of course, I do have a special place in my heart for the song, "Boom Chicka Boom."

The smoke is much, much worst this morning.  Keith says he has to mow the lawn today   I have errands to do or I wouldn't go out at all.  I bet I see more people wearing masks today than I did yesterday.

"Big fires bring more than 3,500 firefighters to Southern Oregon - 11:06 am. With the five largest fires burning in Douglas and Josephine counties having grown to more than 35,000 acres, southwest Oregon now has the dubious distinction of being the nation's wildfire hot spot."

If the smoke is "much, much worse," why is Keith going out in said "much, much worse" smoke to mow the lawn??  Can't he wait until it's cleared, or does it seem like it'll take too long to clear?
