You won't believe it, but the first spam registration got through - here's the unbelievable part - you have to answer three questions to actually even be able to get the registration request to be sent.  Spambots cannot do this, so this means that some ASS somewhere had to physically come on the site, register and answer the questions.  How can any idiot possibly be that demented or stupid to think that the e-mail address, which was buy clothes.com or some idiotic thing like that, would be approved?  It is really something.  So, I'm going to go in and make it impossible to register.  If someone real is trying to register and can't figure out the final answer, they can e-mail us for the answer.  I think that's the best way, don't you?  The question will either be "What is it?" You know what that answer is.  Or, What is Adriana's last name?  And you know what that answer is - which do you like better?  I could also do "what is the best record label?"  Anyone who can't provide THAT answer doesn't need to be on THIS site.

I was going to say the first as maybe being less searchable for a quick and easy answer.  But if a savvy hacker is glancing at the message board, that might not be the case.  Oy!

I'm thinking "what is the best record label?" because I think your music often brings new people here, more so than Adriana.  Going on DR Chas theory it might also be the easiest for a hacker.

The wind has sifted some and we can see a patch of blue out one side of the house and everything else is much less smokey.  The mountains are no longer just shadows in the distance :)

I am presently mulling over whether I should accept some friends' offer to take me to the fair -- the New Jersey State Fair, otherwise and formerly known as the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show -- tomorrow.

While there's more than enough to get done around here, that's just an excuse to sit around.  I don't have any specific plans, and it's going to be perfect weather for a perfect summer activity.  And I haven't been to an actual state fair since probably, oh man, I don't even know, but since I last attended the Ohio State Fair which has to have been as a pre-teen.

Really??  How many years has that fair been going?

This quickly came to mind when I first spied that patch of blue. :)

I dunno, BK. Some people may google something unrelated -- like Kevin Spirtis -- and wind up on one of our old threads. And they may want to join the best site on the internet. They probably would not know the answers to the questions. Those of us who have been around forever would know them. But someone new who finds us couldn't get in.

They can drop me an e-mail if they don't know the answer - and we'll probably put that right on the registration page.

Can anyone post a recipe for chicken? I am in mood to make something different for dinner.

Are you feeling ambitious?  I've always thought this looked mighty good, but I've not gotten around to preparing it:

Chicken Kabob Marinated in Yogurt

1 1/2 tablespoons Aleppo pepper* or 2 teaspoons dried crushed red pepper plus 2 teaspoons Hungarian sweet paprika, plus additional Aleppo pepper or paprika for sprinkling
1 cup plain whole-milk Greek-style yogurt** (8 ounces)
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
6 garlic cloves, peeled, flattened
2 unpeeled lemons; 1 thinly sliced into rounds, 1 cut into wedges for serving 2 1/4 pounds skinless boneless chicken (thighs and/or breast halves), cut into 1 1/4-inch cubes
Special equipment: Flat metal skewers
Preparation
If using Aleppo pepper, place in large bowl and mix in 1 tablespoon warm water. Let stand until thick paste forms, about 5 minutes. If using dried crushed red pepper and paprika combination, place in large bowl and stir in 2 tablespoons warm water and let stand until paste forms, about 5 minutes. Add yogurt, olive oil, red wine vinegar, tomato paste, 2 teaspoons coarse salt, and 1 teaspoon black pepper to spice mixture in bowl; whisk to blend. Stir in garlic and lemon slices, then chicken. Cover and chill at least 1 hour. Do ahead Can be made 1 day ahead. Keep chilled.

Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat). Thread chicken pieces on metal skewers, dividing equally. Discard marinade in bowl. Sprinkle each skewer with salt, pepper, and additional Aleppo pepper or paprika. Brush grill rack with oil. Grill chicken until golden brown and cooked through, turning skewers occasionally, 10 to 12 minutes total. Transfer skewers to platter. Surround with lemon wedges and serve.

*A slightly sweet Syrian pepper with a moderate heat level; available at some specialty foods stores and from wholespice.com.

** A thick yogurt; sold at some supermarkets and at specialty foods stores (such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods markets) and Greek markets. If unavailable, place regular yogurt in cheesecloth-lined strainer set over large bowl. Cover and chill overnight to drain.

Ingredient tip:
Aleppo pepper is sold finely ground or crushed into small flakes; either one will work well in this recipe.

I think that starting with an egg would be even more ambitious!

Why are New Yorkers rubbing nightingale poop on their faces and not cockatoo poop? J.B. has let me down again.

John, if you decide to try J.B. poop on your face, please don't post the video.

Now I have not made a clinical study of this phenomenon, but I do try to keep track during every show that I am in....and it holds true again in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.

The less time you actually have onstage, the MORE time you have to spend in front of the makeup mirror taking up space so everyone has to look over or around you to fix his "hair" or makeup; additionally said person will also have the MOST stuff to spread out all over the makeup counter....brushes, hair dryers, powder, curling irons, powder puffs, hair spray, wash cloth and towels....and will never pick up after himself or put his stuff away....and in spite of this quantity of product will still ask to borrow something of yours....

I wouldn't have expected you to be that sloppy, jrand.

I am curious:

Does anyone know how Der Brucer and/or S. Woody White are doing?

Has anyone...ANYone...heard from or about Tom of Oz?

Yes, I just got an e-mail from Tom the other day.  He appears to currently be in remission with his cancer.  And he and Colin are continuing to do well.

I agree. Why would you not want new people to be able to join. Who really cares if one spambot can get through. I don't think that you should ask something that only people on this site would know.

And on a happier note (E-natural)...Ellen DeGeneres Announces She’ll Host Next Year’s Oscars!

Does the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences know about this?

I think I would rather see Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris host together
