TOD:

Well I would have to use the HHW Time Machine as well.  I would like to go back and do the HARLOW starring Carroll Baker that was originally planned....with Sir Carol Reed as director - done as an "outside" picture away from Paramount as was promised her.  Instead Joseph E. Levine decided HE wanted to produce the picture.  The "outside" commitment was denied....then Bill Sargent decided to jump on the bandwagon and produce a different version of Harlow's life story....  Paramount and Levine rushed their film into production and the race began.  Carroll wrote in her biography that she was very disappointed with the turn of events, and even tried to get Paramount to buy Sargent out...pay him NOT to make his movie, but they refused.

Early publicity shots were encouraging....but....well...there you are.

DR JRand, that original concept of Carroll as Harlow looks wonderful! Why, oh why didn't they go with that look!

TOD:  I'd remake a few of my own films, using the original scripts and just getting better directors who knew what they were doing:  DRASGONHEART; DOA; KULL THE CONQUEROR.

Actually, that's a good idea.

I would remake DILLINGER AND CAPONE and KEATON'S COP, going back to my original screenplays before they got dumbed down by others.

And, I would not cast Lee Majors in KEATON'S COP...or in anything else.

It would be great to have an HHW Winner of the PowerBall.  Is the drawing tomorrow?  Maybe I will get a ticket on Wednesday morning....

New Moon in Leo today and Mercury entering Leo tomorrow should bring luck...especially to those born under that sign....but it will also be good for everybody.

I'm up, I'm up.  I fell asleep at one and should have slept right through the night but I was having a dream and I thought some alarm went off - it woke me up and sounded like it was in the house but stopped the minute I was awake.  I walked around but nothing.  But thinking about it kept me up for an hour and then I fell back asleep - I really needed to sleep longer but alas...  So, maybe seven hours.

Good morning. What a day. It is sprinkling here and a little weatherbug tells me it is 76 degrees. In Phoenix. In August. Ahhhh.

I can think of several films that were terrible that could have been great - none could be remade and be better because the directorial and cast talent doesn't exist - Man of La Mancha comes immediately to mind - what a film that could have been in the right hands.

Ah, the alarm mystery solved.  What the fresh tomatoes is this AMBER ALERT crap on my phone.  THAT's what woke me up at three in the morning.  They've now taken over our personal devices?  Someone tell me how to turn at least the sound off.  I couldn't even make sense out of what the alert on my phone said!  You know, there's something seriously wrong with this country right now.

So, the amber alert is on wireless devices for serious child abduction cases and is designed to "galvanize" a community to go out and, I suppose, keep their eyes open.  The problem is, as soon as you unlock the phone to get a closer look the message disappears and I can't find where it goes, if anywhere.  Also, I don't think sending the alert so that it wakes sleeping people up in the middle of the night is the way to go.  It's a little Big Brotherish to me, no matter how noble the intention.

Yes, several films should be remade...."Mame", "Man of La Mancha", "Phantom of the Opera", "Nine", and, just because it ought to be sung by "real" singers, "Sweeney Todd" (although the production was superb).

Again at odds with Elmore:  "Brigadoon" is far from turkey.  Should it have been shot on location?  Yes.  Was it done as well as could be done on a soundstage?  Yes.  Its glory is the score which is sublime in the hands of the MGM Music Department.

I'll vote for a remake with the understanding that the MGM orchestrations (and a comparable orchestra) are to be used.  And also with the understanding that no one is cast in the Van Johnson role that is remotely as unappealing as Mr. Johnson was.

That, and the abduction being reported last night actually took place August 2 (not August 5), and it was a statewide alert.

I don't really pay good money to have my phone go off...or my programming, for that matter.  It's one thing to regulate the free air waves.  It's quite something else to steal what I'm paying for.

Non-essential personnel in Yemen have been told by the U.S. to get out of the country.....that would be worth an alert.

I have a question.

Is this the format I want for playing on the computer?

http://www.amazon.com/Phantom-Opera-Royal-Albert-Hall/dp/B005SFR7YE/ref=sr_1_3?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1375810934&sr=1-3&keywords=phantom+of+the+opera

(It gives "other options" as DVD and Bluray). I have no television, so no DVD or blueray player.

President Obama will be arriving here in about an hour to speak to high school seniors about the housing situation. Or something.

DR Jane, did you know that Lisa Gardner has a new book coming out today. Well it is a book she wrote as Alicia Scott before she became famous. So she is reissuing the 3 book series under her own name. The first one called Maggie's Man comes out today. I am going to reserve/suggest it at my library.
