And a handsome fellow as well!  Happy birthday TD you are missed  but I ma glad to hear things are going well -  and how is your Mom?

Hello, everyone.

Thanks to DRs Doug and George for the information regarding region number changes on the computer. It looks like AnyDVD won't work for Macs. One day I'll have to look into other alternatives. I always thought of it as a hardware issue. Silly me!

And Laura, all you need to remember is region 1 is for the US and Canada.

Very sorry to hear about the Darling Daughter's dental problems. When I was a little tyke my father had all his teeth pulled. I couldn't have been more than four, but I still recall him coming home and telling my mother that it was rough. It put the fear of God in me! I was lucky, too, to have good teeth.

Vibes to BK's DD and to DR Mike for as little pain as possible.

TOD:
I'd like to see a remake of DR DOOLITTLE. I love the concept and love the songs, but the film didn't quite make it for me.

Like DR John G, I'd also like to see ON A CLEAR DAY. No thoughts about casting in either case.

I, too, enjoyed BK's sing-a-long. I'd like to see his nightclub act, but that probably isn't going to happen.

Just found out my "Food Lovers' Guide" has moved back into the top three spots among San Antonio books on Amazon.com. That's so cool. It came out a year ago this week:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #136,280 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

#3 in Books > Travel > United States > Texas > San Antonio

Congrats, John.

I can easily relate to Cillaliz's staycation--I used to take many like that. I found it good to get away from work even if I was working at home doing something else. It was still a break. Plus, when you return to work you don't have to be bothered with all the other stuff, because it's DONE!! Oh, yes, I can relate.

I am glad to hear you are taking it easy today, Cillaliz.

Thanks!  I did go to the benefit for Sharon.  It was fabulous homemade Mexican food rather than the loose meat sandwiches I had heard it would be.  I didn't stay long.  A lady sitting next to me was ranting against immigrants and wouldn't stop.  I tried to calmly discuss things a little, but she was the sort that didn't listen.  So, I made my excuses to Sharon and said goodbye  It was fine.  I only knew a couple people there anyway and had finished my dinner.

I invited Sharon to come over some day soon and just hang out with me and the cats.  She always says that she misses them.  So I'll have her visit.  Hopefully Callie will come downstairs to visit.

However, i have got to say, BK, that is me all-time favorite song.  I was laughing so hard, that Nicky thought I had lost it.

Yes!  I hate coming home from work and thinking of all the things I need to get done but don't have time to do them.  Hoping to get lots of them done.  We'll see. Tomorrow is the dentist

Just finished #3, THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS' NEST.  Whew.  Great stuff.

IMDb has pages for the second and third movies, but no hard information.

I'll certainly at some point watch the US version, but not for a while yet, and I have to admit to being predisposed to not liking it.  Or not liking it as much as the Swedish.

I like some Fincher, but I know how my tastes run when it comes to good foreign films and US remakes, and I expect to find this one a multi-million-dollar overproduced Hollywood extravaganza with lots of "now" stuff (to shamelessly plagiarize BK's descriptions of things).  Of course, knowing nothing about it, I could be totally wrong about this one.

It's been a long day . . .and I am grateful for every moment in it.  Friends and family breaking bread,  Playing like a child with 4 children under 12 . . .wrestling with Miss Molly . .and cutting and eating the cake. . .Thanks, HHW, for being a part of this special day .

The Fincher version is completely unnecessary, if you ask me.  It adds about ten minutes of things that aren't in the Swedish and that's about it.  It's shot very much like the Swedish version but it's just not as well cast, the music is completely irritating and Fincher actually blows all the great little moments that are perfect in the Swedish version.

TOD:  I'd remake a few of my own films, using the original scripts and just getting better directors who knew what they were doing:  DRASGONHEART; DOA; KULL THE CONQUEROR.

I'd love to see your version of Dragonheart. I loved the original, so improving upon it would all be for the good.

John, did you know that Charles Pogue published a novelization of his original script?  Highly recommended.  There is one unusual review on Amazon.  There are seven 5-star ratings and one 3-star rating.  This is what the person wrote for the 3-star rating:

Quote
I bought this to read to my Grandchildren who love dragons. It is an old copy and I paid very little for it here on Amazon but the story and the fantsay is priceless. I am all about teaching kids that dragons are something special in a make believe world.

That description doesn't sound like a 3-star rating to me. :-\

The 3-star's one I've not seen.  Must be fairly recent, but then I haven't look in probably a couple of years.
