Well, you've read the notes, the notes had V-7, and now it is time for you to post until the Kellogg's Kows come home.

DR ChasSmith - I am astonished that Bayou has 100 different sauces!  Is that a typical cajun thing?

Good morning.  I have to go catch up on yesterday, which somehow got away from me - though not in a  bad way, for the MOST part anyway.

In the notes yesterday, I discovered that I am Greek - interesting.....English/German on both sides....so someone must have taken a vacation at one time or another.

When I was little I would see
Many products on TeeVee.

I did not get to buy them much
Money being tight and such.

My favorites though were good and many
E'en though I got not any.

Still I would watch and sometimes pray
That there would come the happy day

When I would get what I would see
Appearing then on my TeeVee.

Today I return to work.  Oh well.

Thanks to DR MBARNUM for the early birthday card that arrived yesterday.  Most entertaining.

Good morning, all! What a huge number of posts yesterday!

DR singdaw, I must have missed something, but what is this "moving" and"midwest" situation?

I have no plans for today or Sunday and I am very happy about that. I will watch a few DVDs, and try to move about as little as possible.  On Monday, I must go back down to Toyland for various and sundry jobs, but I hope I can get about without too much pain.\

Sugar Smacks and now it's Honey Smacks

EXACTLY!

All of those, and I think some Raisin Bran (Post? Kellogg? maybe either?).  But let's face it, those sugary ones were the greatest.

It's too bad about the name changes.  Just last year I tried looking for Sugar Crisp and was confounded by the lack of it in stores.  I actually had to use the internet to figure out what was what.  But all four of those.  Shocking!  And there's probably not one iota of real difference in the ingredients.

I remember sending away to Kellogg's for prizes or whatnot, and always wondered what someone at Kellogg's thought of ME for winning whatever it was.

Were they the ones in Battle Creek, Michigan?  And wasn't at least one of those cereals shot from cannons?  My li'l kid brain liked to envision all the cannons that must be sitting around a town of that wonderful name from, who knows, the Revolutionary War or something, taken over by Kellogg's for the production of their wonderful cereal.

When I was growing up I could do the voices for the commercials for the cereals

Count Chocula (Vampire)
Franken berry (Frankenstein's monster)
Booberry (Ghost)

and they are still around

not knowing they were variations on Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff & Peter Lorre

and two less successful cereals with Werewolf and Mummy (fruity tastes)
which are no longer around.

My dad would sometimes bring home the "healthier" cereals that weren't nearly so much fun to eat, like Shredded Wheat.  And we ate many others, such as regular Corn Flakes and Bran Flakes and Rice Krispies and Corn Chex and Wheat Chex and really, I'd have to do some searching to remember them all.  But even though we'd have the occasional eggs or pancakes (probably mostly on weekends) and the occasional hot oatmeal, we were generally a cold cereal breakfast family and must have literally had them all.

It's really funny about all the "now"-correct name changes, because one look at the cereal aisle in the supermarkets tells you that all of these things continue to sell like hotcakes even in the new millennium, regardless of whether today's mothers "Moms" see the word sugar or not.

And then there was Cap'n Crunch and its many spinoffs with their own mascots

Smedley the Elephant
Harry the Hippopotamus
Jean LaFoote
Chockle the Blob

and many special editions and versions that didn't succeed

Anyhoo, the TOD is about advertising and products.  I wish I could remember what some of those hot ones were for me, but right now I'm blank.  I'm sure some will come to mind later.

I always enjoyed the hair products - especially the stop motion Brylcreen commercials....

And the deodorant commercials like Ban Roll-On....and of course the Anacin commercials with the anvil and the lightning strikes in someone's head......

But DR Mike keeps me going, damn him.  When I do browse the cereal aisle, I feel glad that I got out of the house and out of regular cereal eating prior to the veritable explosion (not just an explosion; a veritable explosion) of so many of those character names and flavor combinations.  They actually make me a little sick looking at them and imagining the flavors and the cloying icky kid-appealing sweetness.  ewwww!!
