I put 881 miles on the car this weekend, and there's another trip to Austin tomorrow. Some friends have wanted to go along and we're just going to focus on barbecue food trucks.

One good aspect of the trip: I listened to 10 of the 20 CDs in the New Yorker collection of food writing. Some of it was exceptional, including John McPhee's late 1960s profile of Euell Gibbons. I never knew his life was so fascinating.

Ham and brisket at a weird place called Buck's Steaks and Bar-B-Que. It was a barbecue buffet, but it was so mediocre, you didn't want to go back for seconds.

I had blackberry, cherry and peach cobbler yesterday. I wanted to try the pecan, but I just couldn't.

I am back from an annual Labor Day weekend party hosted by my mother and my aunt (her sister), consisting of nothing but wine and hors d'oeuvres. About 20-30 different types - there was indeed something for everyone. I am very full.

I am recording it each week on my DVR from cable. But I see that it is available for streaming on Amazon - BUT they are only releasing the episodes week by week, to coincide with the broadcast.

I have successfully navigated the perils of the bath tub, and now I am going to bed. I;ve decided that tomorrow I will risk walking out of the building with the cane. I cannot lie here forever feeling sorry for myself.

Am listening to "On the 20th Century" for the first time in ages. I just wish BK had handled the CD release. The sound is not good, but that score is just extraordinary. And I know Hal Prince fired her on opening night, but Madeleine Kahn is excellent.

I bought the PAL/Region 2 DVD from England. The case is cracked and it looks like one of the discs has a scratch. I have to check it out to see if I need to get a replacement. Hopefully, it'll be fine and I can keep what I got. I have extra empty DVD cases, so that's not a problem, but if the disc doesn't play, that is. $:-\$
