FJL, starting to watch the movie of "Last Starfighter." Have never seen it before.

Have you heard the cd of Skip and FJL' musical version? I had the great joy and privilege to see the reading in which BK participated as  well as a performance at the NYMF

In 2006, I saw a concert version in Issaquah, Washington at the Village Theater's New Musicals Festival, and met Fred and his ever lovin' Skip in person!  Jonathan Betuel, who wrote the screenplay was there, too.  AND a pre-Broadway concert version of "The Million Dollar Quartet," starring Lance Guest (the star of the movie, "The Last Starfighter") was featured during the festival, also!  Both Jonathan and Lance were kind enough to autograph my DVD. :D

TCB, did you see that with me?  All of a sudden (no surprise, though) my memory's vague on who saw that with me.  TCB or PennyO.  And I also got to meet (former?) DR Julie.  That was a great week!  Thanks again, Fred!  :-*

I must admit I am floored that it's still running. I found it funny, fast and outrageous, but the score unmemorable and not my cup of tea.

I've had some deelish pastrami on rye, and I am ready to think about bedtime.

I am back from Florida, where we celebrated my Dad's birthday, I enjoyed some excellent food (mostly at home with Mom and dad), played cards a lot,  and celebrated the Jewish holiday as well of course.

Nice :)

In the mail today was a solar powered plastic owl to keep the ducks & geese, if it works, from feasting on the fish.  Keith named it Ollie but I am going to call it Blair as the head spins in a full circle.

THANK YOU ALL DEAR READERS

For all your good wishes for Kismet. He has tons of energy when we go out for our walks and he has great appetite when I give him his special food twice a day.

I spent part of my afternoon paying bills and watching tv. The other part was given up to some of my physical therapy exercises and telephone calls.  Now, I'm looking at various mattress sales online.

We purchased a mattress topper for our old mattress and it made a big difference and cost less than a new mattress.  I didn't expect to like it either as it is a memory foam topper from Costco.  It took a couple of days to work for me while Keith's hip immediately felt better.

More vibes for Larry and a third on the recommondation against the double Tylenol.

A double bourbon is more my style, but probably not too good for your tummy, either.

Alcohol and Tylenol together is especially bad on the liver.

I also overexerted myself a few minutes ago getting a jar of instant Folger's out of the cabinet over the fridge.  Sometimes living alone is not easy, especially when you're infirm.

Maybe a friend can stop by and help you put things where they can be reached more easily.

Greetings, all!

For a day off from the show, it was rather busy for me, hence my late entrance here.

I had a noon recording session to add some new material to the demo for a developing B'way show called Mr. Confidential, based on the real life goings-on of the man who start the Confidential Magazine back in the 50's. The music has a bit of a City of Angels feel to it, and the writers have already had one staged reading of the show in NYC a few months back.

The nice thing about the demo is that two of the other main singers are Howard McGillin and the amazing Christine Ebersole, and I am singing the role of the charming yet alcoholic villain (my new specialty?). if you want to hear any of the show's demo, you'll find their site here:  http://www.mrconfidentialmusical.com/.

Back to my other show tomorrow, but thankfully without the person who was making it worse. Maybe we'll salvage it by closing.  :D

I hope everyone is having a great early week.

Had a good session with Sandy and Lanny although we didn't run anything because she forgot the music :)

But we mapped out the launch version of her show and I can do the patter for that now, and tomorrow we'll run the Ira Gershwin show.  The NY date for that show isn't in two weeks it's in mid-October, so I'll definitely be back in NY for that and will book the trip soon.

In other very preliminary news, I was contacted by the artistic director of some theater in LA who wants me to come direct a revue based on the songs of Newley and Bricusse - she'd heard about the Kritzerland show, loves my work, and so we'll be meeting on Monday to discuss the particulars.  The daunting part is that she wants to open the show in early November - which means if it works out I have to actually create the show in the next three weeks - certainly I've done it before with What If and I do have the Kritzerland show as a basis, but would have to expand that, figure out a structure and what the patter would be and how it would work.  I think we'd keep the cast small and do it very simply with either a trio or maybe even just a piano.  I told her that if we can work out all the details, that I'll do it.  She knows I'd have to be gone for three days in mid-October, and that our Kritzerland rehearsal days would have to be worked around, but that shouldn't really be a problem.  It would be an eight to twelve week run and while they have a group of actors, I would not be forced to completely cast the show from within their company and could therefore bring in a few people, which would be great.

I guess it's supposed to be a Robert Preston double feature kinda a day. The second flick tonight is "Tulsa," part of a two-movie Susan Hayward set. Preston co-stars, along with Chill Wills and more.
