Monday afternoon greetings!  Richard and I were at the vampire's blood lab before 9am for both of us to have tests.  We then went to breakfast, to the Verizon store to ask a question about our recent bill, and to the grocery, where we shopped, Richard had some prescriptions filled, and I did some banking.  It's very unusual for us to be out and about so early, especially on a Monday morning, and we ran into several of my AAUW friends who were very surprised to see us.  Home now for the rest of the day.  I'm actually going to cook dinner tonight and clean off my desk.  It's a mess!

Ginny, I am trying to picutre what you consider "a mess" on your desk.

Here is The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance celebrating their collaboration with the Gershwins:

Rhapsody in Maize and Blue

Very nice.  Although I do think it is pretty tacky that a big University, like Michigan, would go and steal my high school's fight song!

DR ChasSmith -

Great, but I think you're missing a few steps.

At some point, you're suppose to turn around three times and touch your right finger to your nose.
And then at the end, aren't you supposed to hop on one foot and sing the 3rd verse of "Yes, We Have No Bananas"?

 8)

Then clap your hands and sing, "That's what it's all about!"

BK:  Is your other player the Oppo 93?  Which region "mod" do you have?  Mine's the one that plugs in either on the back or inside, and I have it on the back.  You do the code-and-restart thing to change BD regions, and it's always all-region for DVDs.

Yes, the Oppo  93 - I can't remember the instructions that came to do the all-region thing - it's on a paper I have in the den, but I've never changed it after I set it.  That player always works fine - but the cheap five year old Samsung is done.

I can also recommend cheap Panasonics.  Mine was wonderful but I passed it on to someone when I got the Oppo.

So, just in case we have the same add-on:

Remove disc, close drawer, wait for "No Disc" message on screen.
On remote, press "DIMMER" three times, then press "MUTE" once, then press "1" or "2" (for Region A or B).
Don't do anything else.  Just turn player OFF.

Turn it back on, and Bob should be your uncle.  If he isn't your uncle, then it's probably a different mod, but let's hope...

I hate to sound stupid (I know, I know), but what does "Bob should be your uncle" mean?  This is the second time I have read this today.

DR TCB - this is what Wikipedia has to say about that:

Bob's your uncle is an expression of unknown origin, commonly used in Britain and Commonwealth nations. Typically, someone says it to conclude a set of simple instructions, similar to the French expression "Voila!" or the American slang "Hunky dory".

The new Oppo - Oppos last forever - they're monster machines.

Hello. What an awful day in Washington, DC.  As Kate mentioned I don't work near the Navy Yard but it was still too close for comfort.  Of course, something like that could happen anywhere.  My heart goes out to the families of those killed.

How close?  After DR Kate's comment I looked how far away Craig is.  30 minutes was a happy distance for me.

I checked google maps and it's 4.2 miles from my office.

I went and looked at the Oppo line. They look very impressive - and they're pretty expensive.

Apparently also, there is a difference between "Universal" and "Region-Free."

The thing with Oppo (oppo, spelled backwards) is that they last a looooong time and never break down.

I saw some of the prices. :o Too rich for my blood!  But I didn't notice the "Universal" and "Region-Free" distinction.  Do you know what the difference is?

I buy from an online company that specializes in region free players and especially that specializes in making sure their modifications withstand any and all firmware upgrades.  That's why it's a bit more, but I'd rather spend a bit more now than have to buy again in two years or whatever.

Okay, this is weird...hopefully, it's just a momentary glitch, but my computer (I'm at work) is right now no longer showing BK's avatar, nor any of the smilies, even in "Reply."  None of the smilies are showing as the images.  They all show as Xs.  Is anyone else having this problem?  If not, it must be on my computer or something happened here at work.

No. Except, from what I can gather, a Universal player may not play discs from all regions. (In that case, why call it universal, right?)

I'm not and that sounds very odd.  Vibes you figure out how to fix the problem.
