Kevin, are you preparing for an enforced vacation on September 30th?

Well, Ben, as it turns out, I'm taking off from Oct. 1- Oct. 8th anyway.  The question is:  will I be paid for those days?

Where is Barbra performing?

Just finishing up "Hit the Ice" with Abbott and Costello. It's a pale ripoff of "Sun Valley Serenade," only without Sonja Henie, Glenn Miller, the Nicholas Brothers, Dorothy Dandridge, Milton Berle or the Harry Warren-Mack Gordon score. But otherwise, well ... There is no otherwise.

Some big news from my former employer:

Dayton Metro Library Plans to Buy Hauer Music Building

Of course, they'd probably rather not use the name we peons gave to the parking lot they're buying - The Dead Body Lot.

Is that where Jimmy Hoffa is located?

You really must take a look at this house in Des Moines-- the Madonna inn meets Fu Manchu.

My great grandparents lived in an suburb of Detroit where it was fashionable to have servants.

My mother always said that she wanted another house with a "magical" laundry chute; where you dropped your dirty clothes down the chute, and soon thereafter they arrived back in your room: laundered and pressed!         :)

I used to have one of those --- then I moved out of my parent's house

I drop off and pick up my laundry at a Laundromat near me.

Today, at the old actors lunch, I mentioned something about Audra McDonald would probably demand that she get "My Favorite Things" in the December SOM.  They all looked at me as if I had three heads.  None of them had heard about the TV production.

In the original, that song is sung by the Mother Abbess and Maria, so she wouldn't have to demand that. It's part of her role.

Depending on which version they are doing.  Hopefully they will follow the original Broadway production and not the revised Hallmark version.

Had a brief fit of pique this morning. Saw on half.com a book called "Barbecue Lovers' Guide to Texas" from my publisher that was due next year. It had a cover photo of ribs low over charcoal and another of Sloppy Joes. Neither of these is Texas style.

Thankfully, the publisher says it's just a placeholder and not at all the real cover.

I love Sloppy Joes.  I will even eat Manwich on occasion.

Same here.

But also, I don't just eat Sloppy Joes.  I binge-eat them.

The sloppy joes here are made with leftover brisket all chopped up and marinated in a sweet sauce.

When I was growing up, the lady next door (who was my second mother) used to make these really easy Sloppy Joes, where she would fry up hamburger, add an egg, and a can of Campbell's Vegetable soup.  I added shredded cheddar cheese to the top and I would binge eat those.  I should make some this weekend, I haven't had them in years.

Here they are called loose meat sandwiches.  We have Made Rites, Taverns, Charley Boys, and....hmmm a few others. Some have a sauce like a sloppy joe others are just crumbled hamburger and onions.

I think there are a number of variations like that.  I have a family recipe for Sloppy Joes that hold together more firmly than the liquidy variety like Manwich.  When I dig it out I'll post it.

Tip o' the day:  when making Manwich use WAY more meat than suggested on the can.

Another tip o' the day:  Martin's Potato Sandwich Rolls.  They're as yummiliciously wonderful for Sloppy Joes as they are for burgers.

Loose meat sandwiches!  Not a familiar term, but I've heard it at some point.  Love it!

I'd probably love every variation of them.

This is some serious binge comfort eating we're talkin' here.

Decided to go to Jerry's because I just couldn't do Gelson's tonight.  Since I'd only had a BLTA today (barely six hundred calories) I had some chicken tenders - you never know what you'll get, size-wise, but the five that arrived were quite small so not too bad and I was still hungry so I had a cup of their really good chicken corn chowder.  I'm way too full now and feeling guilty, but even if I went a few hundred over my usual 1200 it shouldn't really matter since at this point in my diet it is suggested one splurge meal a week.

Listening to what will probably be our beginning of December release - two CD set, three scores, all previously released, two of them OOP for over a decade and one OOP for three years.  But none of that matters because in addition to the film music fans this will appeal to a much broader crowd, given the star of each of the films.

Sadly, I won't be able to.  I'm running the sound board for Olympia Family Theater's production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and it runs through all of October, when "The Weir" rehearses.  My friend Pug is directing that!

I actually like this.  There's no way I would want to take care of a house like that, but it's pretty cool, in a very kitchy kind of way.

DR Singdaw, How are your moving plans going?

Thanks for asking, DR Kate!

I have a verbal estimate on the cost of moving our stuff...  But that's about as far as it has gone at this point.

It is looking now like the move will happen sometime between now and Christmas.

I learned yesterday that I did NOT get an arts administration job that I had applied for - which I would have been perfect for - so that is disappointing. But I know that things will work out OK in the long run.

Good luck on the move, Singdaw ;D but it's too bad on the the job. :(

Another ASK BK

Do you prefer "Ketchup" or "Catsup"?

Ketchup, now and forever, like Cats.

I vaguely remember reading something that said that "ketchup" and "catsup" are actually different from each other.  I don't know what the differences are, though.

And today in 1925, 88 years ago, DEAREST ENEMY opened at the Knickerbocker Theatre and remains young.

Happy Anniversary to DEAREST ENEMY!  Can't wait for the new recording!

Back from an interesting meeting.  Finally got our guest star for the October show - the divine Terri White.

Cool!  I met her in 1995 in NYC.  I went with a theater group tour and we went to Eighty-Eights and she was bartending.  I recognized her from the Nunsense videos and she graciously gave me her autograph. :)
