DR Jane, you will be pleased to know that when niece Taylor and I went to see ANYTHING GOES on Sunday, we only got lost once.

It seems we got onto the Sunset Hwy alright, but headed west instead of east, towards downtown Portland. Heck, we were half way to the coast before Taylor suggested that maybe I was going the wrong way. ...she then whipped out her cell phone, hit the GPS button and directed me the rest of the way till we got to the theatre. 10 year olds are very smart.

As I have lived and driven in this area for 30 years, one would think I would be able to find my way around by now.

My breakfast visit with Bollywood and Punjabi (Pollywood) film actor, Aman Dhaliwal, on Saturday was wonderful. Such a nice guy and it was great to meet him in person. His cousin Davinder is also a great guy.

Aman brought me some nice gifts including the soundtrack CD to his latest movie and a book on Sikh history, which is a subject he knows I am quite interested in. And he autographed a photo for me.

They are both in Sacramento now, and will be heading to Los Angeles soon. I am so very glad that they were able to stop and visit with me during their motor trip!

I took my camera, but unfortunately forgot to make sure the SD card was in it  :P

...but, Davinder took several photos and he has promised to forward them to me. If and when he does, I will post them.

I'm glad you had a nice visit.  Will you be writing an article?

His interview was posted on www.pedrotheapebomb.wordpress.com. As he has more films released (he has signed for to that film in January and April, respectively) I told him I'd be more than happy to do another interview or something to promote this films.

Interesting article, especially how is career got started.  He seems like a good person and I hope he accomplishes his dream of a cancer hospital.

For my birthday, somebody gave me an old tequila cask. I've just put up my first cocktail to age 28 days. Something called a Seaway with tequila, Cherry Heering and a coastal scotch.

Now, I just have to find a reason for a party in a month.

Headline on my local paper:

'Wild' movie starring Reese Witherspoon will film in Ashland - 4:30 pm
Local hippies, punk rockers and grunge fans stuck in the '90s could get a shot at the big screen during the filming of "Wild" later this month in Ashland.

TOD:

Even though I read a lot I'm not usually a big book recommender.  Unless I know a person loves a certain genre.

Here is a genre that I am sure most people on HHW will not have read before (and maybe not even heard of). It's called NA (New Adult).  It has gotten really popular in the last year or two.  It has characters that are 18-25. And has more mature subjects than YA.

There is one author in this genre who has blown me away. Her name is Colleen Hoover.

My eBook library doesn't have any of Hoover's books.

Doesn't YA also cover those ages?  Is NA a different style or considered more mature?  THE BOOK THIEF which is one of the rare books I've give 5 stars to was published in the States as YA and as a regular adult book in Australia where it was originally published.  I'm curious if it would be called NA today.

In Young Adult (YA) the narrator is usually 16-18. There would not be graphic sexual content.

In New Adult the narrator is 18-25. Sometimes the person could be in college.  A lot of NA seems to be contemporary romance. And there can be more graphic sexual content than you would see in YA.  Also in NA there can be more mature subjects.

I haven't read The Book Thief, but I'm guessing that it has very mature subjects. But that the girl is very young and that is why some are rating it as a YA.  I don't think this book would really fit into typical YA or NA.

Reading "Amigoland," a novel, and recently read "Brownsville," a book of short stories, both about South Texas and both by Oscar Caceres. Would recommend them highly.

Lots of barbecue books, which are only for die-hards like me.

Had to read Paul Smith's "Lead with a Story: A Guide to Crafting Business Narratives That Captivate, Convince and Inspire" for work. If you need that for business, it was quite good. But I think the actors in our midst know its message in their bones.

Working in a library, I've never heard of "NA (New Adult)" as a new designation.  Cynical me thinks that it's only a new marketing ploy...not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

It's only become very popular recently. But it wouldn't have its own section at the library. The books are mostly contemporary romance.  But I think it is a very valid category. It truly does bridge the gap between YA and Adult.

Just curious, does it matter that it's part of the curricula in ninth and tenth grades across the country? I mean I would never consider To Kill a Mockingbird YA but I read it in ninth grade.

We also read both Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story, but neither is YA though the characters are the right age.
