We watched the new version of THE GREAT GATSBY last night.

The CGI was spectacular...perhaps too spectacular... and the film itself was "okay".  About halfway through, I remembered that it was released in 3-D.

I'm not sure that Leonardo was the best choice to play Gatsby.  He might be the right age, but I think that Redford (and even Alan Ladd) brought a certain "maturity" to the role that Leonardo lacked.

I love Dorothy Loudon, but I really hate "50%"!  I like much of the BALLROOM score, but not that number.

If you liked SHAUN OF THE DEAD, Mikey, you might also like Simon Pegg's HOT FUZZ. It's a real hoot as well.

If you've tried to order my new book on Amazon or elsewhere and found it was "out of stock," that situation has now changed.  There was a minor glitch with the printer, but that has been corrected.  So, please order away.   :)

BTW: This one contains some stories about BK.      ::)

TOD

Lots this week, most of which arrived today so I haven’t watched/heard most of them yet.

Blu-ray:
JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH (Australian release with same extras as Twilight Time version but vastly cheaper!)
HOUSE OF WAX (3D)
LIFEFORCE (Arrow Films UK version)

CD:
THE MIRACLE

DVD:
MOVIES 4 YOU – MORE SCI-FI CLASSICS
THE THIRD SECRET (rental) This is a seriously weird film. Convoluted script with unreal dialogue; fourteen year old Pamela Franklin speaking lines more appropriately written for an adult and Stephen Boyd over-acting like crazy.

DR JANE I keep getting the notice that I need to have my files on iGoogle backed up before Nov. 1 - but I don't have anything ther.

I did finally find a NEW homepage that is a lot LIKE  iGoogle - and you can set it up to look very similar.  There are lots of gadgets you can add....so I have started using it.

www.ighome.com is the link where you can check it out.

Speaking of zombies, I finally have watched SHAUN OF THE DEAD, thanks to a co-worker who loaned me her DVD. Very funny movie!

Yes. I may have to get that before Halloween. Loved it.

Have you also seen TUCKER AND DALE VS. EVIL? It is another excellently done horror film spoof. I never laughed so hard!

Will have to look for that one.

In the meantime, a group of chefs in town are doing a dinner inspired by their favorite horror movies. Of course, fava beans and Chianti will be served.

DR Singdaw,

I hope you will feel better soon.

Please have a safe trip, and have a great time with your DH.

I didn't know that you are a singer.

What kinds of songs do you sing?

I must flit, I must fly, I must pack...

Today I fly to Minneapolis, where I will see my DH and sing for a family wedding tomorrow night. Flying back on Monday. I shall be E&T from this here board, for the most part, for the next few days, but catch up I shall.
Feeling somewhat under the weather, so I hope for my seatmates' sake that I don't unexpectedly vomit on the ground, as I did last night.

And yes, DR Ginny, that will be me waving as I pass over Ohio!      :)

I'm glad TCB asked about a recording.  This show sounds like the most perfect thing.  And I think the fact that it's Bricusse and Newley makes it the most uniquely perfect, perfect thing.  Just...you know...perfect.

Yes!  Can't wait to hear more about it. ;D

A youtube recommendation came up for the late, great, really missed Dorothy Loudon singing "Fifty Percent" from the musical Ballroom.

I cannot get the performance out of my head for the last couple of days.

This is truly an example how to put over a song full of emotion and telling the story. A master class unto itself. Broadway performers today can learn from her that "less is more".

I remember that Miss Loudon was supposed to do BK's Jeepers Creepers cd (which needs to be re-released) but she was very ill at the time and would pass away two months later.

Here is the link to the performance which was performed at Carnegie Hall. She received the longest applause that evening.

http://youtu.be/6D2zJNUhWi8

I remember watching the DVD when I first got it and I just LOVED this song and her performance of it. :)

Last night I had a most loverly phone conversation about a possible gig next spring. It's very tempting and I'm pondering it seriously.  We'll see.

BK, November 15 is just about 4 weeks away! This revue sounds great. Do you have an MD? Will there be a band? When do you cast? It sounds like the perfect show for Lanny! I'd love to do it but I can hardly stand up, much less come to LA at the moment

Good Luck with the possible gig!  And...

Garage Door People have come and gone - last time it was the gears and springs had to be replaced.  This time the motor - installed in 1998 it has given fifteen years of good service but was spazzing out and about to bite the dust, so now we have the latest and greatest new motor, guaranteed for - fifteen years, with a lifetime guarantee for the belt.  Had to reprogram the control pad outside the garage and my car, but that's all done now and it's all working splendidly.  Also, the old motor wasn't really powerful enough for a door as heavy as what we have, so this motor will work much better.  He was surprised the other motor with too little power held out this long.
