SO LET ME GET RIGHT TO THE POINT
« on: October 19, 2013, 12:34:36 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes got right to the point, and now it is time for you to post until the pointed cows come home - of course, some might consider that a MOOt point.

Good morning, all.

Scratchy throat here.  This started yesterday, and simply will not do.  Must take care.

TOD:

Van Cliburn
Liberace
Roger Williams
Ferrante & Teicher

I really like Van Cliburn's recording of Tchaikovsky First Piano Concerto in B Flat Minor.....I got the 45 rpm Extended Play after seeing him on the Ed Sullivan show....it is still here somewhere.

I like whoever played the piano on Nelson Riddle's ROUTE 66 theme song as well.

Good morning, all!  It finally happened.  This morning, when I woke up, I had absolutely no idea what day it was, and I kept thinking it was Monday and I had to get ready for physical therapy,  This is the 56th day since I got back from Dublin, and every day is like the other, the only difference is my physical improvement.  When I started thinking about yesterday's events, the fact that I watched the friday night Britcoms on channel 21 told me that this was Saturday.

So, now that I know what day it is, my day will be pretty much like every other day this week and the last and the last and the last . . .  I'll make the bed, read my new mystery, watch my Netflix DVDs, maybe listen to a CD with one of the scores I've dragged off the shelf.  Tomorrow, I'm determined to break the rut and actually go down to Toyland first thing in the morning, maybe accomplish some work, and maybe bring some back with me.

I have the Region 2 British DVD of BURN WITCH BURN titled THE NIGHT OF THE EAGLE, and i may drag that out today as well. Curiously, it's 84 minutes long while the DVD of BURN WITCH BURN is 89 minutes. Did the British censor cut something?

TOD: I'll agree with DR upperco about George
        Arthur Rubenstein
        Whitmore & Lowe
        Ferrante & Reicher
        Joshua Rifkin

DR Elmore:  I completely forget if there are any differences beyond the main title, but most or all of that running time difference is due to PAL speedup (approx. 4%).

NIGHT TIDE sounds like a winner.  I wonder why I never saw it.  I'm just sorry I never knew those L.A. beach attractions prior to 1972-73.

Saturday morning greetings!  This is the first Saturday this month that I haven't had to be up and out of the house by 9 or so.  I'm home all day today and my only plans are Michigan football on the Big Ten Network at 3:30.

TOD:  I used to love the soundtrack to THE EDDY DUCHIN STORY which featured the magic fingers of Carmen Cavallero at the keyboard.  I particularly remember fondly BRAZIL and DIZZY FINGERS.

So many pianists I love - Ferrante and Teicher, Gold and Fizdale, Peter Nero, Roger Williams, Earl Wild - when I just turned teen, I especially bought LPs that had piano lead - there are many that I'm forgetting that were faves back then, but maybe they'll come to me during the day.  Jazz-wise, it was Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and George Shearing.

Oh, and one of my favorite classical pianists, Philippe Entremont, whose performance of the Gershwin Piano Concerto in F is one of my favorite things EVER.

Good morning, all.

Scratchy throat here.  This started yesterday, and simply will not do.  Must take care.

Same with me. Sore throat, headache and cough. Barely slept at all last night. Ironically I had my first ever flu jab last week!
