Thanks everyone for the nice words about my Scrooge pictures.  I spent about two hours just going thru the second act looking for a particular shot, but I actually preferred some other photos more.

i've ben up since 3:00am this morning as I went to the local swap shop where around around 5am to wait in line to get a place to set up to sell stuff. I got rid of DVDs and Blu Rays I no longer watch. Also sold a bunch of CDs that are save on my laptop. I remember a time when you could sell your collection on Ebay for $$$$, but this is no longer the case, so it was sold for a fraction what I could get at one time. But I am glad to have got them finally out of the house. I will go back again sometime next month or early December to try and sell the balance. It nice to have some extra pocket $$$.

Mike, what is the problem selling on ebay?  I used to go there a lot, but being on a fixed income has kept me away.

This morning I served as communion assistant and the Vixter was assisting minister at the  9 AM service, and then, since the property Committee was hosting  coffee hour today I popped  down the road to the Presbyterian church

I have had a close relationship to this church since I was 18 and belonged to a "Coffeehouse " there; in fact most of my closest friends today are people that I met through that group,

The minister there is wonderful-  the Vixter also belonged to the youth group there and they also allowed me to use a room there for Girl Scout meetings

Many of my friends are members there and the minister there was a great comfort to all of us when I was  going through the cancer treatments

(He jokes that  I am the only Luthaterian he knows)

The minister is retiring  and next Sunday is his final service and retirement party, but as I am  running coffee-hour next week for our Staff Appreciation and New Members day I cannot attend their service then  (although I am going to the retirement luncheon)

So to make a short story long  I was able to get to the Presbyterian church in time to attend their 10:30 service and hear  Pastor John  preach one last time  and then scooted back to my church in time to speak to the new members group about  volunteer opportunities in social ministry, lay reading , coffee hour etc etc

then I drove home on this glorious day and Vixdad and I decided to go on a drive up to the north shore  and wandered around the main street of Cold Spring Harbor -

I did find some books I've been wanting to read that weren't previously available, three out of about 30 I looked for.  I'm especially excited about the new Jamie Ford book, SONGS OF WILLOW FROST, that came out last month.  I'm 28th in the queue.

That is a better spot in the queue than the recently added Khaled Hosseini novel.  I'm down from 55th to 53rd out of 107 holds with only 1 book.

That is better than the soon to be released John Gresham novel where I am 83 out of 134 people.

I'm 35th on the list for the CDs of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep. Maybe next year.

;D

I've learned patience with the eBook library.  I remember when I would rush out to buy a book or check it out shortly after a release date.

My library's ebooks are not compatible with my kindle. But I find I don't care. I have so many ebooks to read. And I love getting the hardcovers from the library.  Plus I don't know that I would do well with the 3 week limit. At least with hardcovers I can renew them usually.

I am not patient either. Luckily since I request the books I want far in advance I am usually #1 in the reservation queue.  I definitely don't think that i would enjoy being #50.

DR Jane my library did get Maggie's Man and I was #2. I found that odd. But since i don't have the time to read it now it's fine.

The only thing that i've been in a long line for at my library is Season Two of Homeland. I requested it way before they got it. But there were already 15 people ahead of me. So now i am #10. And we get dvds that are tv series for 1 week. So it will be at least December before I can see it.

It was a whaling village in the 19th century and is a beautiful area.  We went to the Fire Dept museum

Vixmom, that's a great photo. And the description of dinner made my celery salad pale in comparison.

A celery salad?  Sorry John, that sounds really boring.

It was better than the cucumber salad, which I didn't even finish.

and we learned about these speaking trumpets

they were megaphones used for giving instructions to firemen at fires; however they were outlawed

Since the fire chiefs of competing fire departments were using them as weapons at fires  while arguing over which  fire co would be allowed to put out the fire!

and they even have one of these old pumpers which is apparently still in working condition   and gets trotted out for very special occasions - they acquired it in  1852 and used it until the early 1930's...

Almost time for THE AMAZING RACE which was delayed by football.

Well, you can't blame the Seahawks, they played on Thursday.

So I decided to practice a couple of songs before our concert today. It only took me about 5 minutes to realize that I really do have whiplash and it doesn't go well with holding a flute to play it for long periods of time.  So, I was still going to play the concert until my shoulder and neck started hurting more as I drove to the theater.  So, I made the decision to sit this one out.  We have enough flutes to cover and this is a volunteer thing, not a professional thing.  Everyone was very understanding.  I turned in my music (we do that after every show) and watched the rehearsal for awhile.   We sound really good from the audience.   Several people said they wanted me to wait and eat lunch with them between rehearsal and the concert, but I snuck out after awhile and went home.  I'm glad I did

DR Elmore, so glad to hear you are getting out and about.  Did you take some work home in case you don't feel like going back to Toyland tomorrow?
