After much resistance I finally purchased a white-noise machine. This one has nature sounds as well. A couple years ago, JRand very kindly sent me some DVDs of nature sounds and I do enjoy them. But my CD player does not have a REPEAT function, so I needed to either buy a new CD player or a while-noise machine to keep it on all night. I still do not like much noise--even pleasant sounds--although I did tune it to THUNDER the other night when my neighbors in a nearby building had their usual late-night balcony party. It didn't drown them out, but it did make me feel better. SUMMER NIGHT is rather nice, although it may be a bit confusing going into winter.

Which one did you get?  I got one that is white noise only. And it is a constant noise, not something that repeats. I love it. It is one of the best things I've ever gotten.

DR Elmoore:

Can you with-hold part of your rent for each day the elevator is out of order?

Perhaps God told you to do it.

It's the best thing ever.  I've gotten so used to it that i like putting it on to go to sleep even if it's quiet.

The weather here was mild (mid 60s) but so windy. Ridiculously windy. There are branches on the roads and leaves blowing everywhere.  It seems to have calmed down. But part of the city is without power (not me).

I rarely go out to eat. And of course the whole way there had power. But not the one building I was going to. :(

When I got there people were eating by candlelight (the kitchen was still open). But then by the time my party arrived they decided they were closing the kitchen even though they had told me they were open. :(

Where did you go instead?

I went to this place called the Bar B Barn. They specialize in ribs that are sweet.

Then you ended up happy :)

Yep they were good. But I find the place over-priced. And I really wanted Chinese food. But it was still really good.

The landlord just emailed me! He says it will be repaired hopefully on Tuesday.

And will he be arranging for an assistant to run your errands and bring you mail in the meantime ;)

Just crank the heat way up and Summer Night will be a vacation

I will say I liked it a lot more than I thought I would and I'm very very glad I went.  It just still needs work.  The actors were all great.  The band was good it's John Mellencamp's band - or at least part of it, minus John Mellencamp .  The songs were good, even most of the story was good but the staging is a bit goofy.  I sort of like the radio show concept and it sort of detracted.  They weren't playing actors doing a radio show, they were the characters in the story on the radio show but they all sang their parts near the prop mic like they were actors telling the story. It was a little awkward.

The house was far from full.  There was a decent crowd, but nowhere near what it should have been.  Of course there was a standing ovation, but I do think it was deserved.  I hope they keep working on the staging

Back from a very interesting rehearsal, in which I assembled the disparate parts into a whole - the one act version - I have been against this from the very first conversation when it was suggested to me, yet the suggestion kept reoccurring so I did orders for both a one and two act version.  After this evening, I knew it had to be two acts and so did the cast.  You just can't ask an audience to sit there for eighty-five or so minutes of one song after another.  They need the break.  And frankly, I have a great act one closer and a great act two opener so two acts it is, and we'll do that version on Monday night.

Poor Jane Noseworthy is so sick - she could barely talk.  I felt so bad for her.  But she thinks she'll get through the Kritzerland show.  Someone is bringing her a little prednisone, which is great for throat problems.  Young Sami lost her voice about six weeks ago and she took two and voila - she had it back enough to sing within four hours.
