There was a cola in Montreal called KIK. It's no longer around but I believe the company now produces the cola as generic brand names for food markets etc.

Coke; Royal Crown (RC) Cola as an occasional alternate; Hires and My Dad's Root Beers (at home in bottles; otherwise, A&W Root Beer in frosty mugs and the Birch Beer in frosty mugs at the Royal Castle chain; Vernors Ginger Ale (never a regular thing for some damned reason, but always a very special treat whenever they brought some home); and 7-Up which I never liked very much. I suspect I'd still find it a very boring drink and I have no desire to even test that theory. All of these were from glass bottles.

Of those, Coke was always my absolute favorite #1 drink, and still is. But nowadays I also appreciate the occasional "Throwback" (original formula) Pepsi. I also love trying various Root Beers and Ginger Beers. I say "beer" instead of "ale" because only Vernors, which is very regional to the midwest, made the one that actually tasted of ginger, and the only drinks that REALLY taste of good ginger in the northeast are those labeled Ginger Beer. Canada Dry and Schweppes, for instance, might as well be labeled "sweet carbonated water" in comparison to Vernors and the others.

Good morning, all! Today is another round of physical therapy, and I look forward to it. I'm still pondering questions that have made the past days tense - how do you budget a recording and include nothing for the overdubbing sessions? how do you make a budget without knowing the entire cast? - and still irate over the foolishness of some people. I'm also still terrified of unemployment, and it's been my experience in the past that if you've no work offers by Thanksgiving, then you will be unemployed until January 2.

After therapy, I will stop at the Seven-Eleven and the pharmacy next to the bus stop for a couple of items on my way home. Then I have a long long weekend, although I may break it up with a trip to Toyland on Saturday to continue cleaning up DEAREST ENEMY.

I'm driving over to Poughkeepsie (where they pick their feet) this morning to make a killing at the Barnes & Noble Criterion sale. It's one of the closest full-service B&Ns, and a great one for this event because it's one of the stores where the salespeople bend over backwards to help you utilize every coupon and discount... and I go over there loaded with them. There are reports of B&Ns elsewhere where they bend over backwards to PREVENT you from using them, so I consider myself fortunate. I have a handsome collection of Criterion Blu-rays and DVDs, and this helps to support that habit.

Mexican Fresca, made with sugar, is just as good, but I read yesterday that they're going to stop using sugar and start using corn syrup in Mexican sodas. Guess I'll give them up for good, except for a ginger beer on occasion as a mixer.

Thursday morning greetings! After all the rain and wind yesterday our yard and driveway were a mess of leaves, so our lawn guys are here cleaning it up for us. Probably the last time we'll see them until next spring.

No way!! Are you ******* kidding me??

Nope. The link below is related. It's about what's called "Mexicoke" which is available in many Spanish bodegas in New York City. It's Coke made with sugar, not corn syrup. The bottlers are planning to change all the soda products in Mexico due to (as you can see if you read the blog post) a Bloomberg-style "fat tax".
