DR Jeanne - I am moving the week before Thanksgiving. Loading the truck early in the week, and driving myself and the dog later in the week. I am hoping I don't run into too much snow and ice along the way.

Good morning, all! I decided to sleep in, and I realized that I had made plans to go to Toyland this morning and needed to do so. I am up,dressed, and on my first cup of coffee. I hope to leave very soon. I have several things to print out and bind, and I've got to finish with the DEAREST ENEMY orchestra parts for Rodgers & Hammerstein.

Needless to say, we will not have the whole house, just half of the second floor. But it's twice as large as where I'm living now, for less rent.

Woke up to discover that a friend of mine from the newspaper had died. He was a great photographer, someone who had actually made a living at it after he left the paper.

Rick had been ill lately with pneumonia, some rare strain that landed him in the hospital for 15 days and even when he was released, it was to a clinic and not home. I knew he was on his second round of antibiotics, but I guess nothing helped.

He was quite the ladies man, and I saw women all swarm about him. One of the funniest memories I have of him was when he was in a meeting with the three of us food writers. He saw lipstick on my boss' teeth and he leaned over, stuck a finger in her mouth and rubbed it off. She is this squat, roly-poly lump and she was equally appalled and delighted at that. We all laughed about that story for years.

I'm at Washington National Airport. I was pleasantly surprised to be put in the TSA Precheck line, as I was the other day in LA. I guess it has something to do with being a member of a frequent flyer program. In that line you don't have to remove your shoes or belt or put your laptop or liquids in a tray.

That's what people think about Buffalo too, Ben! I may see a flake or two while I'm there. Actually, I think snow is in the forecast for DC next week.

I knew that, but somehow I never picture places covered in snow. Even the Arctic, I see the water more than the ice.
