Greetings, all!

I had the duty of introducing Val Kilmer as a presenter last week at the Ovations, and he clearly had left his trees at home.
However, he is doing a one man show as Mark Twain, which begs the question: Does he know that Hal Holbrook is still alive?   :D

Now, about yesterday:  we had a New York "first" that we didn't plan - a trip to the ER at Presbyterian Hospital.  We left the apt about noon, took the bus down to 42nd, and walked to the Drama Book Store.  From there we walked to the Belasco to try to get TWELFTH NIGHT tix.  It was almost our turn at the window when my nose began to bleed profusely and would not stop.  Richard went to get a taxi, whose driver picked the hospital and we arrived there about 2:45.  It was a zoo, but I was treated well by all the nurses and Drs. Bender and Caldwell.  We left there about 7 armed with a basin and lots of gauze, and things have finally calmed down.  Damn blood thinners!

Needless to say, we do not have TWELFTH NIGHT tickets and we missed Fr. Jake's ordination.

~~~No More Nose Bleed Vibes for Ginny!!~~~
And that's too bad that you missed your two events. :(
The Belasco box office clerk was very generous with tissues, but she kept telling me to put me head back, which Paramedic Rob told me is absolutely NOT what you should do.
We are off to the theatre district!
I had no idea that that's what you're not supposed to do until very recently.  There was an episode of "Royal Pains" a couple of months ago where Divya met a little boy who got nose bleeds regularly.  She (as a physician assistant) asked him what he does about it and he said that he tilts his head forward, NOT backward.  She said that that's correct. I assumed that the TV show wouldn't put out bad information for something so simple, so I figured that it's what you're really supposed to do.  I haven't had a nose bleed in years (fortunately), so I haven't had the chance to try it out...fortunately.
I also hate box elder bugs.  I don't mind most bugs in general so I don't know what these annoy me so much, maybe because they seem to be everywhere.
Employment vibes for DR MIKE.....I think many of us have been in that situation.  Of course those who want to change everything should take a lesson from the recent JCPENNEY debacle.
This article talks about it a bit.  But it doesn't mention the most egregious mistake in the 'makeover'. Johnson got rid of the cash registers, and customers had to find a salesperson who then used a pocket scanner and card swiper to pay for their merchandise.  Cash customers were left out in the cold trying to find someone who could help them.  JCPENNEY is NOT Apple....and it isn't JCPENNEY anymore either, even though they got rid of the geniuses!
http://www.allanalytics.com/author.asp?section_id=2220&doc_id=262959
Interesting article.  I like the idea of a quick check out with a person using a scanner, however, they still needed people at the counters.
Yes, DR ChasSmith, our apartment is very dry and we had just walked about 20 minutes in the cold.  I've decided to cover my nose when we're outside.
Good idea, and maybe one you should continue throughout the winter.
DR Jane, have you read the Nadia Stafford series by Kelley Armstrong? The first two books came out a while ago (the first book in 2007). But she just wrote the 3rd book and it is coming out this month.  She usually writes paranormal. But this series is crime (I loved it).
The first book is 99 cents until Nov 24th. This is the link for B&N. But it's the same price at amazon.
For 99 cents I'll give it a try-thanks.
DR Ginny,  Is this basically what you were told to do?
Tilt your head forward and pinch the soft part of your nose (the nostrils) together just below the bony center part of your nose. Applying pressure helps stop the blood flow and the nosebleed will usually stop with 10 minutes of steady pressure — don't keep checking to see if the bleeding has stopped.
If you get a nosebleed, don't blow your nose. Doing so can cause additional nosebleeds. Also, don't tilt your head back. This common practice will cause blood to run into your throat. This can make you cough or choke, and if you swallow a lot of blood, you might begin vomiting.
Once you've stopped the initial nosebleed, don't lift heavy objects or do other activities that cause you to strain, and try not to blow your nose for 24 hours.
DR Jrand, our Diwali Festival needed a good dose of vibes, unfortunately.
But we learned some good lessons for next time and, for the most part, people had fun.
The entertainment portion of the night was awesome, that much is for sure!
DR JRand, no pictures have been posted on our group's website yet, but there was a nice article in the newspaper the next day which does have some nice snaps of the gathering, including the buffet and some of my Food Committee volunteers: http://www.statesmanjournal.com/article/20131110/NEWS/311100048/Group-brings-Indians-Americans-together-Diwali-celebration
