Well, you've read the notes, the notes learned from The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and now it is time for you to post until the Cherbourg cats come home.

BK, thanks for the "Umbrellas" report.  Did you get it from Amazon.fr (in France)?  I found a listing for the Arte Video release and will order it soon.

I have CD soundtracks for the two movies ("Umbrellas" and "Young Girls of Rochefort"), but not the actual movies.  Now that I have a multi-region Blu-ray player, it's about time that I do. :)

Good morning, all! Last night's dream was sheer madness, a combination of THE WIZARD OF OZ, ONCE, and BABES IN TOYLAND, and it was a mess. I was glad to be awake at 6:15 and escape the complete insanity of it. This morning is fraught with activity: bus to Radio City and haircut, bus to City Center and meeting with Joshie, bus all the work home with me.

Once I'm back home, things will calm down, thank God.

Good morning, all.

Coffee!  And plenty of it.

I slept fine, but spent the last hour in bed tossing and turning because of an aching back.  No particular excuse for it, it's just what happens sometimes at the end of a night's sleep.  I HOPE a new mattress will greatly alleviate this, and I really must do something in that regard soon.

As I just posted on the HTF upon reading BK's "Umbrellas" post over there:

Oh.  Thank.  God.

I am so there it's not even funny.  And I only WISH I had the personal history with this film that Mr. haineshisway enjoys.

It's also a good thing I have that wonderful Blu-ray of The Young Girls of Rochefort.  Because that must be watched -- today.  Nothing less will do.

Seriously.  This evening.  In the Movie Room.  With the door shut and The Big Speakers cranked up.  This is just the greatest news.

My next stop this morning:  Amazon France.

Oh!

The invited audience performance tonight!  Many VIBES and XYLOPHONES for a wonderful show in front of a wonderful crowd!  I so wish I could be there.

To think how overjoyed I was to finally score a copy of the "Umbrellas" DVD last year at a regular price level.  It had gone out of print by then, and I see the primary listing on Amazon right now has it at   ---   (I hope you're sitting down for this)   ---   $159.99.

And to think how wonderful it looked to me after having only owned the VHS release.  Oy!

TOD:

CD - I'd be very tempted to take Une chambre en ville for a spin to get my brain in tune for the Demy tonight.  But I probably won't have enough time around the house during the day to do this.

BLU - The Dick Van Dyke Show - I was one of the lucky few to score a copy at an erroneous $48 from DVD Planet.  Watched a few of these yesterday.  Tonight, The Young Girls of Rochefort.  All other plans cancelled.

I doubt if I will be watching anything this weekend.  I'll be spending the 3 days at the Wizard World Austin Comic Con, and I'm sure that I will be so exhausted every night after I get home that I'll just fall into bed.

Some shameless self-promo for me, Skip and sometimes-DR Julie:

We had our table-reading of VIVA MAX!, our new musical based on the novel by Jim Lehrer, was presented for an invited audience yesterday aftrenoon.  The musical has a book by Julie and me, and music & lyrics by Skip.

Mr. Lehrer gave it a standing ovation and made a lovely, touching, funny speech at the end.

The cast was: (in alphabetical order)
Kurt Bardele –  Governor of Texas, Sheriff
Michael Cone –  Private Ungaro, Farmer
Milla Ilieva –  Carmela, Lady Bird Johnson
[Milla has an album on Kritzerland.]
Joseph Kolinski -  General Maximilian de Santos
William Parry –  Police Chief Sylvester, Lyndon Johnson
[Joe Kolinski and Bill Parry are leads on the "Last Starfighter" Kritzerland album.]
Ric Ryder –  Corporal Crecencio
Maureen Silliman –  Hattie [also Lynda Bird Johnson]
Jake Smith –  John Wayne, Highway Patrolman
Janie Smulyan –  Luci Baines Johnson, Ida Fellows
Christianne Tisdale -  Paula
[There is an interview by BK on HainesHisWay of Christianne here

"We did a first table-reading of our musical version of Jim Lehrer's novel VIVA MAX today. We invited about 20 close theatre-writer friends and Mr. Lehrer, his wife and one of his daughters attended. Mr. Lehrer gave us a standing O at the end. Man, that felt good. Mrs. Lehrer gave me huge praise for the music and lyrics. I have to thank a wonderful cast for nailing it today. Joe Kolinski, Christianne Tisdale, Milla Ilieva, Ric Ryder, Maureen Silliman, Bill Parry, Jane Smulyan, Michael Cone, Kurt Bardele and Jacob Leonard Smith.
Evan Pappas did wonderful work with our cast on Tuesday helping them with music-stand-eography and boosting the oomph of their characterizations."

Continuing with Barney Miller

I am still in season two. So far not as funny as I remember it. Maybe it gets better as the seasons progress.

Also I never realized that despite being in the opening credits Barbara Barrie appeared in only a handful of episodes.

I remember the movie with Peter Ustinov.  Very funny idea; just so-so execution.

But, I think that the basic story could make a terrific musical.

Good luck with it.

Or, should I say, "Break a leg"?

And I am sure this cannot match the color of the Blu Ray release of Les parapluies de Cherbourg

BUT……

Here is the sequence that features the Academy Award nominated song Je Vais Attendre Pour Vous and the train departure.

The singers are Danielle Licari & Guy Foucher and not Catherine Denueve and Nino Castelnuovo. She was only 20 years and gorgeous.

Friday morning greetings!  Rainy and foggy here in SW Ohio today - glad Mom and I aren't out and about like we were yesterday morning.  I do have to pick up a new prescription and deliver it to her today, but there's no rush.
