DR George, here's a question maybe you can answer:  For 16x9 HD material, what does one need to do in order to copy it to DVD-R and retain its 16x9 (anamorphic, if the term applies here) size?  Is this something you can do, or would your DVD-R copy come out as letterboxed 4x3?  (Does the question make sense?)

You ought to post this at Home Theater Forum.

That said, I have an HDMI button on my remote/HDD player/recorder.  I think, but cannot recall for certain, that anything that was widescreen or filled the screen when I watched it while recording also dubbed down that way, as well.

Will have to check on it, though.

I'm about a half hour into the new "Gatsby." Don't mind it's visual style, but it's all just too emotionally uninvolving.

Thursday evening greetings!  It's been a busy day, getting ready for book group tonight and doing the errands I had planned for tomorrow when we expect to be snowbound.

Oh, I also saw the doctor today about the nosebleeds.  He adjusted a couple of my meds and said those events aren't as serious as they seem.  I told him that's easy for him to say.  He also referred me to a new cardiologist who's in the same practice with Richard's.

Truthfully Kyra Sedgwick really made The Closer.  Mary McDonnell is good. But she is no Kyra Sedgwick.

I think the new focus of Major Crimes was pretty interesting.  And I'm starting to warm up to the lead character more and more. Not sure yet what I think of the new female detective Sykes. So far she's sort of getting on my nerves.

Our new lead makes this a different show while the cast makes it also the same.  They needed a different personality than Kyra's and someone new couldn't continue to cross the line as Kyra did.

As for the annoying Skykes, just wait the new DA is far more annoying.

Hi everyone! The computer and Internet are up and running. I cannot find which box has the keyboard, but the on-screen keyboard will suffice for now. Yesterday was the first storm of the season. I am quickly getting up to speed on the arcane rules of street parking during "snow emergencies." The wind chill overnight and tomorrow is expected to be between 10 and 20 below zero. Welcome to Minnesota!   :)

Almost makes our cold front seem warm.

I thought this behind-the-scenes shot was fun!

That's amazing!  I never thought about what it (or any set) would look like from beyond the TV screen.

I have one word for you, Singdaw...LAYERS.  Got to wear layers

The one time I braved out into the -40 degree weather to walk Echo it took me half an hour to get all my layers on.

I hope you don't have trouble getting an appointment with the new doctor and that you like him.

It sounds like good news about the nose bleeds.  Did he give you any suggestions regarding when you should consider going to emergency vs waiting longer?

There are some kinds of settings on my DVD burner, but they don't seem to really make any difference.  I've tried changing them all, but nothing changed on the display or the burned DVD. :P

While it's in the single digits in the Midwest, it was in the 60's in Washington, DC today!  But by Sunday it will be in the 30's with a "wintry mix."
