Here's a painting I picked up in South Africa. It was meant to symbolize the joy of Mandela being released from prison. Great memory.

The latest from the trial today.  It sounds like what happened to Martha is finally coming into evidence.  I'm glad I'll be there tomorrow

Sorry - forgot to log out when my friends arrived to talk about the holiday-themed books we'd read.  A couple of them left shortly after 8 to get home ahead of the bad weather and the rest of us joined Richard in the family room to watch THE SOUND OF MUSIC.  Guests are all home safely now and Richard are enjoying the broadcast.

According to Goodreads I have read 143 books this year and am 4 books ahead schedule to reach my goal of 150 books.  If I make it to 150 books I will be very surprised.

I had better go read.

You have almost 4 weeks to read 7 books.  You could always add some novellas or shorter books if you want to make your goal.

I will say that as a trial lawyer, I know that it makes a difference if there are people there supporting the litigants.  It's almost the reverse.  If no one is there it makes a huge statement - that there is no one who cares enough to be inconvenienced to support you.   There are a lot of people who have been coming and going and watching the trial.  A couple have been there for all of it.  A couple more of us have been there for large chunks of the trial and a lot have come an gone, staying an hour or half hour or whatever they can.  I'm sure the jury notices it and it clearly means a lot to Martha.

And she has a ton of silent supporters.  I've talked to so many people who don't feel like they can go or really speak out about it but will say under their breath "I hope she wins".   She may or may not, but man she is so brave to go through this.   An the newspaper makes me laugh.  The good stuff for her made the front page, the not so good stuff was buried on page 3.  I'm thinking the reporter  may be sympathetic.

We quite enjoyed THE SOUND OF MUSIC, even though Carrie won't win any acting awards.

Time for bed. I enjoyed the broadcast. I didn't like the Mother Abbess, but i enjoyed a great deal of the production. I've always preferred the stage show to the film and, while this wasn't as good as it should have been, the production, managed to land its important key points correctly and move me.

The Sound of Music has started!

:'(  I can't watch it until later this evening.  I have to leave work now to work concessions for a local play.  I didn't realize what was on TV when I signed up for it.  Oh, well.  I have BOTH of my DVRs recording it, just in case!

Be back later.

Well, there's good news and bad news.  The good news is that I did record the show and will be able to make a DVD.  The bad news is that the DVR on my hi-def TV crapped out (not the first time) and I can't watch the broadcast on my hi-def TV.  But, I got the show and that's the important thing.
