Good morning, all! Because of weather, my friends' flight from Dallas (not California) has been canceled. I don't know if he and his family are coming in later or not yet. My friend Vinny, who played rehearsals for EILEEN, DEAREST ENEMY, and ROBERTA will arrive tomorrow. He's been traveling with the Celtic Tenors.

Last night, after a bad day - except for a surprise and wonderful gift - I went to bed at 7:30. I got about 12 hours of sleep, which was needed. Today I will be tied up with Encores! work. Joshie and I worked out the calendar of deadlines last night around 5:00, while my mind still worked.

DR cillaliz, i loved your comment about the SOM and high school performances. Had I been awake when you posted it, I'd have sent you gold stars. Whatare you going to do with your abundant vacation time?

I am out of milk and I need coffee!

Thanks Elmore.  It really irritated me that I'm hearing from so many people that I know don't go to the theater unless they have a family member in the production saying the watched and enjoyed it and many who think they are "theater people" are doing nothing by nit pick.  If someone new watches and gets the theater bug or maybe their kids see a musical for the first time, it may be a whole new audience who may think "You know, maybe we should go see live theater" .  I hope they do more live musicals on TV

Paula Leggett Chase, who was one of the nuns, is married to the show's musical director, and she posted a wonderful thing on FB about how she hoped the  ratings would guarantee other productions that would give a lot of the negative posters a chance to show them how to do it right.

That is funny.

The weatherman just said "Tomorrow it will be warmer, you can wear 14 layers instead of 15"

;D

I think you should stay home and finish your warm room.

Just finished reading Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Coast Trail.  I think I've lost weight just reading about the hike

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANE!!!!!!

Thanks.  It has been a strange one not being able to go anywhere.  We did walk to the mailbox only to find the mail was very late today or not coming at all.

A walk?  All the way to the mailbox?  You Oregonians really know how to live!!

It is a half mile walk down to the mailbox and then a half mile back uphill.  In 8 inch snow I worked my leg muscles.  I waited while Keith crossed the icy plowed road at the bottom of the hill to reach our box.

I have friends who hiked either the whole trail or most of it shortly after they got married.  They moved to Idaho when they got back

LOL  I just answered that.  My favorite hike is on the stretch of the trail on Mt. Ashland where I meet those hikers.  I've met a few limping the rest of the way and rushing to the post office for new shoes.

I've seen others leave water but have never done anything.  I would have offered the limping hikers a ride if their hadn't been so many of them and not much room in my car with Sherlock in the back.  I did single out one woman but she said she would be ok.  I never found out if she made it in time.  I have had friends give people lifts into town, but then I'm not really going back that way.

I've seen hikers in town but have only talked to the ones I met on the trail.

He posed so nicely next to the sign for me when he really wanted to run.

I think it would be fun to hike a little of the trail during the day, but I couldn't do the pack and camp thing.

If the West Coast had "fixed" sound mix, a) it is reprehensible as this was supposed to be a LIVE show, warts and all, and b) the mix I'm hearing is one of the worst ever with vocals buried under the orchestra - if it was worse, I can't even imagine it.

Has to be the same, then.

About halfway through the broadcast I tried switching my receiver over from Pro Logic or whatever it was defaulting to, to plain old L/R stereo, and oddly enough it tightened things up and brought the vocals into better balance with the orchestra.  Still ugly, though, and I found it more pleasing in general to keep it on the surround setting.

There's an interview with a producer or someone at the network, in which they admitted there was one (1) - count 'em - audio person at the controls.

I only got up there in the early fall this year.  I don't go once the weather turns cold or if there is snow.  There is skiing on the mountain but the lifts are before the PCT.  I know people who cross country ski by the sign.

I saw it at the same time as the East Coast and the sound was fine here

Also, I eventually noticed that the dialogue is just as poorly miked.  Way too low, with noise that's beyond belief.

This afternoon I braved the crowds in downtown Tempe to get to the theater to see the tour of Evita. In addition to the main road being closed for an arts festival, there is a big football game being played at the stadium. We rode the light rail instead of even trying to drive and park.

Afterwards, DRs Sandra and Jason and I had dinner at IHOP.

I've seen Evita twice before and disliked it. This is the first time I've ever seen a show I didn't like and came out liking it. They did a great job.
