THE DOING OF THE DO
« on: December 24, 2013, 12:11:03 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the Do and all it entails, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're not going to a Do, they're going to a Moo.

I've been in bed too long! At 5:30am, my body was telling me I'd been bed-bound long enough, I decided to go with it around 6:00, and by 6:45 I was bathed and dressed. Although my cold water is officially turned off, I opened the tap long enough to take a bath. After two days of sweating under blankets, I needed a good wash.

So, the apartment is a mess, a complete shambles, and I can't do much until I hear from my super about the plumber. The flooded space beneath the kitchen sink has been mopped out, and I'm going to let it thoroughly dry before anything goes back under there.

The postman and the UPS man forced me out of bed twice yesterday to deliver packages, so I have a few things to open tomorrow, along with all of my holiday cards that have been arriving in the past month.  I plan to spend most of today in bed as well. Tonight, PBS is showing the Minnesota Opera production of SILENT NIGHT - about the famous Christmas Eve in World War 1 when the German and French troops called a break and celebrated Christmas together - and i want to watch it.

I've received a gracious invitation to have dinner tomorrow with our DR FJL and Skip,  but I believe I will stay home and not give them and their other guests my cold, the gift that keeps on giving.

So, on December 24, 2013, may I wish all the DRs and those they love a happy holiday!

More coffee!

Christmas Eve Morning greetings!  Up early to have some time to myself before we head north for the 5pm service at Holy Nativity Anglican Church in Lima.  I will probably be E & T most of the day and evening.  Hope everybody has a lovely Christmas Eve!

TOD - we will spend tomorrow at home, opening presents with Mom and Rob and Mary Linda.  We'll have a turkey dinner, for which we've also invited Mary Linda's maid of honor and her husband.  I expect to hear sometime today whether or not they're coming.

Merry Christmas Eve to everyone.

We will be visiting a friend later this morning and then spend the rest of the day with Anthony's parents. We will have roast beast for dinner and then exchange presents.

Larry, glad to hear your cold is slowly going away. Take care of yourself dear friend. We will try to see you when we get back to the city.

The temperature has dropped in New York. We hit record highs Sunday and Monday but today it's more like December.

Larry, glad you confirmed.  So we'll switch around, and celebrate very small tonight.  Milla's doing a do tomorrow, so we'll go there for our main celebration then.

In less than an hour, I will be listening live on the radio to the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols service from King's College Chapel, Cambridge - an annual and cherished tradition.

The afternoon through to late evening will be taken up with "putting on Christmas for the people" - a series of Christmas Eve services at the church, with a welcome respite in between of a catered dinner for the musicians.

Tomorrow we'll be together with family in the afternoon for a huge meal.

My Christmas present to myself was a pair of heated gloves. They're powered by small, rechargeable lithium ion batteries. They arrived yesterday, and I first used them this morning on the dog walk in -12 temperatures.

They were extravagantly expensive, but I have to say: they make all the difference in the world.     :)

Fred, thanks so much! I would rather be with you, but you'll be much happier and healthier not to have my cold hanging around! Have a wonderful time!

DR Jrand63 - the accompaniment duties tonight will be handled by organ, harp, and brass. I will just be singing. No bell choir for these services.
