Merry Christmas Eve, all!

The Day of the Do. Wasn't that an old Clint Eastwood movie?   :D

Last night I received an early gift of the Mel Brooks Collection. I had to watch "To Be Or Not To Be" first. Saw it in the theater years ago, and still laugh about the fact that he named his stage manager Sondheim, just so he would yell "Sondheim, send in the clowns!"

Christmas Day, I'll be spending time here and there on the phone with my rather large family back east, gathering with friends, watching the Dr. Who Christmas special (I am an admitted Whovian) and organizing lists for what I have to do to get outta town. Seems I am off to balmy Portland, Maine to do a 6 week job on a show called "Words By" about Ira Gershwin. Brrr.

Just sayin'...

I remember my friend Joe and I going to the theater to see Mel Brooks' "To Be or Not To Be" and we were the only ones who laughed at that line. :D

I will also have to record the Doctor Who specials.  I'll be at my sister's house with the family.  Today, we're all going to my parents' house.  I still have to wrap everything that I have...and take a shower and get dressed.

I had errands to do this morning. The gas station I go to, partly because it's never crowded, was packed today. I got in and out quickly, though. The store I needed to go to is just a few blocks from the local Costco and I was concerned about heavy traffic, but lucked out. No more than usual and the store wasn't sold out of what I needed.

I had purchased a gift for my neighbor downstairs and his partner. This neighbor is the one who insisted on doing my laundry for the two months last summer when I was laid up and had to stay off my feet. He's repeatedly refused to let me reciprocate at all and I was concerned that he would refuse the Christmas present. I was pleased he didn't.

My Christmas present to myself was a pair of heated gloves. They're powered by small, rechargeable lithium ion batteries. They arrived yesterday, and I first used them this morning on the dog walk in -12 temperatures.

They were extravagantly expensive, but I have to say: they make all the difference in the world.     :)

These sound wonderful. My hands used to get so cold when I lived in the East, even with "warm" gloves. A necessity, I think, given where you're living now.

My last gift has arrived.  I bought my mom a bracelet from the Jacqueline Kennedy Collection.....it's a replica of the bracelet JFK gave her when they became engaged.  It's much prettier in person than it was in the picture and on television.  They have been told not to make the bracelet anymore, so the tooling has been destroyed....

Very nice.

Now I suppose I'll jog, then start cooking, then see if there are any packages to pick up.  A local critic in LA, Don Grigware, who usually reviews our Kritzerland shows and who gave Sandy Bainum's show a rave, has given an award to both CD and the show she did.

That's wonderful, BK!  Congrats to you and Sandy!!

Larry, I'm glad the plumber came out so quickly and it's now fixed. What a pain, but best that it's done.

Just a quick stop to say I'm here.  Only saw one car in the ditch and the snow wasn't bad most of the way, just a few places that I had to be really careful.   Off to my bros house.   Later

The UPS and USPS postman arrived almost back to back. I have a lot of packages to open tomorrow.

And today, my favorite Irish actor, Karl Harpur, got married! I needed an actor for EILEEN and by great luck I sat next to a Dubliner on my flight to record it who said "My best friend's an actor." By the time I had arrived at my hotel, Karl had emailed me and I signed him sight unseen. Turns out, he had worked on RIVERDANCE with my Irish producers, and I was lucky to get him for both EILEEN and DEAREST ENEMY. He's currently in Dublin working in pantomime for Christmas before he and his wife head to LA, where he's trying to break into TV and film. He's one of the best.

What luck finding him as you did.

Let me say it here and now:

Merry Christmas to One and All!

And here's a glimpse of the Christmas Tree in the town square of the County's largest town -- Edgefield.

Oh Ron, I love that tree!

Driving vibes for DR MBARNUM.

Congrats to MR BK and Miss Sandy on the well deserved awards!

Yes, I saw the bracelet on QVC last week.  I had seen the JKO presentations before, but I had never purchased anything.

Thanks, DR Jeanne! During breaks in my Encores! work I've been doing bits of kitchen cleanup since he left. Counters are good, stove and top of sink are good. I can't finish until the area under the sink is dry. Probably tomorrow afternoon. Then, on Thursday, I'll do the laundry and the kitchen and bathroom rugs.

I've been up since ten, when the doorbell rang and I received a beautiful gift of flowers from the Pogues - they are in a place of prominence.  Then I got back in bed until the house heated up a bit, then went and bought a huge stainless steel pot, perfect for boiling up five or even six pounds of pasta.  I'm always amazed how inexpensive cookware is sometimes.

Stainless steel was a good choice, Bruce. Easy to clean and very durable. It'll last a looong time.

That show is playing right now here in the Twin Cities.

I guess the authors have it in their contracts that the show only plays in frosty climes.     :)

Wasn't someone from this site, or a friend of a friend of someone, working on a Ira Gerswhin review?

Have a great day, all!!

And today, my favorite Irish actor, Karl Harpur, got married! I needed an actor for EILEEN and by great luck I sat next to a Dubliner on my flight to record it who said "My best friend's an actor." It was so weird. The Irish producers claimed they didn't know any actors, and I was really worried about casting the roles from the chorus, as the Man from Philadelphia suggested. Sometime after the flight began, the young man in the window seat asked me if i lived in Dublin, and i told him it was my first trip and i was going to record a show from 1917. We were talking about the project, and i mentioned that I had no idea what to do about these two villains and that I needed to find an actor. The young man had introduced himself - David Hanlon - and he said, my best friend's an actor; he wants to get to LA and try to make it in TV and films; his cousin's doing well there.  I gave David my email and told him to have Karl contact me if he were interested. I said goodbye to David at the baggage claim, tok a taxi to my hotel, unpacked, opened my laptop, and there was an email from Karl. Then, it turned out he and his brother had both been in RIVERDANCE with my producers. and Karl came in, met with me to hear what the two roles entailed and said yes.

His cousin grew up in America and has been a successful model and actor, Colin Egglesfield. He's got a semi-regular role on RIZZOLI AND ISLES. In 2012, when we were recording DEAREST ENEMY, Karl asked Judy, the record producer, and me for reference letters; he'd applied for his work visa, and it was almost a year later and it hadn't come through. He thought our references as American recording artists who had employed him as an actor might be helpful. About two weeks later his visa came through.
