Very quiet in our house this morning - recuperating from the church marathon last evening. A beautiful light snow is falling outside. We live in a lovely neighborhood of restored Victorian homes, so the dog walk is a visual feast, as many folk decorate with tasteful lights on the exterior and lighted trees in bay windows.

Later in the day we will make the short trek to a family gathering.  All in all, a very satisfying day.

I got to watch my nieces open their presents this morning.  My little niece was so excited about everything.

Then my sister got them tickets to Disney on Ice. And my little niece shouts out "in English?" (they have French shows and English shows). And my sister says yes. So my niece shouts out "I love English!".

She was so excited about all of her presents.

Is there really a St. Olaf festival?

Yes, Virginia - there really is!      :)

DR Kate, her husband and I went to our nephew Patrick's last night.  We had a great time.  There were about 15 people.  We played "Scattergories," which was a lot of fun.

Wow!  Terri White, Karen Morrow, AND Richard Sherman!  Not to mention DRs Ryacko and Druxy; and future stars Jenna, Sarah, and Sami.  What a night.  I would have been in heaven.

I've opened and read all of my Christmas cards. It was lovely to hear from friends all over the world. Several of them have had a far worse year and behaved much better than I.

I admire them and wish them well and a better 2014.

Now I will open all my packages!

Mark and I had a fabulous time at the Do and ate way too much. It was a good thing that Bruce made extra tuna pasta salad because there's not a lot that Mark isn't allergic too and he so loves Bruce's tuna pasta salad and ate quite lot of it. As you can see from the video, I'm fat this year (and I really can't blame the pasta), and I'll have to try to do something about that in 2014. Anyway, it's been a tough year for Mark because his assistant quit and his evil employers refuse to hire a replacement for her. So, instead of working 12 hours a day, he now works about 16 hours a day. I wanted to leave the house at 5:30 pm, so we'd have time to head to the House of Pies and pick up the annual peanut butter pie, but when I called Mark at work to come home he said that was simply impossible so we left about 6:30, which wasn't too bad. I did have a moment of panic when the folks at the House of Pies couldn't locate our pie. Two different people had to go in the back and look for it before it magically appeared. Right away, we noticed that Bruce's house appeared to be packed full of more people than in previous years. I thought it was because everyone chose to show up around the same time, instead of coming in waves, but if Bruce says there really was more people, then I shant argue. I'm pleased to report that the candles he lights on the dining room table every year didn't cause anything to catch on fire at this Do. There was a lot of splendid conversation and from the way Bruce does go on about Carol Channing, you'd think she was his favorite person in the world...you'd think. I really wanted to see "Saving Mr. Banks" before the Do, but with Mark's work schedule that was impossible. I had assigned it to us as homework because I was convinced the room would be a buzz with discussion of the film, but I don't think hardly anyone else had had a chance to see it either and Barry Pearl announced that he had never even seen "Mary Poppins" until last week! Richard Sherman did talk about how wonderfully wonderful it was to work with Julie Andrews because she actually wanted direction and sought to make her performances better (having been born into a different family from Carol Channing, you see). On the way home, we listened to Bruce's production of "Follies" and tucked ourselves into bed with our bellies full of pasta.

Richard and I have put the turkey in the oven, opened our presents from each other, and cleaned up the kitchen.  I've also put green beans on to simmer and set the table for 4 (no Gram :-\).  Now we're relaxing and listening to Martina McBride's Classic Christmas Album (one of my gifts from Richard) while waiting for Rob and Mary Linda.

Do you think if Rob called his grandmother and asked her to come, that she might change her mind?

Well, the friendship that fell apart in 2011 is definitely over. I'm a bit saddened by it, but I stopped weeping over it a long time ago. I guess I always hoped the other parties would care enough to at least attempt to mend things. All of my efforts to communicate were ignored. It hurts.

Life goes on.

DRs TCB and Jane, Life. Goes. On. I can't let my unhappiness turn ugly. There's a young lady I love enormously in the mix and I can't let her be the fallout victim.

So, i opened my packages, and I have one that truly puzzles me, since there was no invoice or gift card telling me my presenter: who the fat hell sent me a Blu-Ray DVD player?

That's the Big Question!

I'm up after a brilliant nine-and-a-half hours of sleep and some mighty peculiar dreams.  Sleep felt so good.  It's currently 63 degrees in the house, but heat is on and hopefully will get it warmer fast.  I'm not going back to bed, though.  I'll open some presents and then do a jog.

The mystery has been solved and the Blu-Ray giver is truly dear.  I appreciate the kindness enormously, especially today, following the end of a nuclear family I thought would be around till i died.
