Thanks to everyone for the vibes for last night.  The preview went very well....we had about 30 people in the audience....

A few missed lines....and Hecuba - the star of the notes on Sunday - decided she wanted to watch the show by standing at one of the entrances completing blocking the way.....eventually during Act Two, she moved.

The audience liked the show....but the tone of the show.....horrible things being told with some humor....really made them wonder how they should react...which is exactly what Tim the director was going for.....

It is really strange to feel that mixed energy from the audience....something I have never had experience with...but it is a lot of fun.

HOWEVER....I think I have to miss rehearsal today because of the weather!

Couldn't you just tell them that you have a dance concert today?

Yes, exactly.  Rejected!

For anyone who may not know, they're the same thing.  It's Best Foods in the western U.S., Hellman's in the east.

And I wouldn't have any other mayonnaise.  No sirree.  Absolutely the best.  Been buying these since someone introduced me to Hellman's in Cleveland, ca-1970.  I kid you not.  Bunch of college kids, and one actually introduces me to a particular brand of mayonnaise.

EDIT:  Which, I think we can all agree, is ODD.

Oh sorry.  But I did get it!  Then I thought everyone should be educated, and I buried it.  Buried a joke!  :(

I like Hellman's the BEST, but it has a tendency to fall off the knife....so when I am tired of cleaning the counter, I use Miracle Whip.....which sounds very Biblical.

Duke's Mayonnaise is the best commercial brand I ever tasted, bar none.

I don't know from film music, I'll be the first to admit it. Most often, I don't even really notice the scoring when I am watching a film - which is, I suppose, part of the point, when it is skillfully done.

Which is why I was so startled the other night, when we watched the film Silkwood for the first time. I noticed the music, all right - but not in a good way. I didn't like the music, didn't feel like it was creating the right mood for what I was watching, and in fact, it took me out of the film experience and made me notice it each time it appeared. I can't recall ever having that reaction before to any film. I looked up the composer afterward - Georges Delerue. I know he is a well-known and respected film composer, so I was just really surprised. And of course, I speak only for myself and my experience with this one film. Perhaps if I had seen it a different day, I would have had a different reaction. It was, in keeping with today's topic title, odd.

Suddenly missing Jimmy Durante.

Must be the ear worm of him singing "Make Someone Happy" (watched "Sleepless in Seattle" over the weekend).

When Dolly first....uh.....burst onto the scene on the old Porter Wagoner Show.....everything about her was intentionally exaggerated....she said that her figure was so out there that she just made everything else match...and became the typical blonde country singer PLUS.  And she looked almost like a parody....but then she  sang those songs....and you knew she was the real deal.

That was nicely put, DR JRand63!

I'm very happy to hear the preview went well, DR JRand63, but Hecuba is a complete idiot. Is she a student? I can't imagine a professional behaving so unprofessionally.

It's hell out today: took me 90 minutes to get to Toyland, but the two-thirds of the choral arrangement is converted to pdf files and sent, along with an invoice, and the money will be nice.

Traffic in midtown is ridiculous; every jerk who drives into the City daily was trying to drive out before the snow got worse, and as result every cross street has become a bottleneck. It was another 90 minutes getting home. Thank God for a good mystery novel.

Yes DR ELMORE she is a student.  There are only three non-students in the cast:  me, TJ, and Caroline (the director's wife who also runs the costume shop and teaches acting at DePauw).....TJ, Caroline, and Tim (the director) were my three leads in ANGEL STREET last July.

Listening to bk's Hello, Dolly! in honor of the 50th anniversary this month.  Putter around the house, trying to "rest" as my Dr would like.  Yeah, good luck with that.

In Tim's notes today, he sort of addressed the issue with:  if you can see the audience, they can see you, keep away from the entrances until it's time for you to come on.....

I doubt they have to give that note much on The Great White Way.
