The choral piece is finished and I've been to the market. I'll read a bit of my mystery now and think about dinner.

TOD:

Phil Lang and Allen Small's work on Make a Wish
Andre Popp and Robert Ginzler's work on Irma la Douce
Tunick on the original Merrily We Roll Along
Larry Moore's work on Jubilee (after Russell Bennett's original)

DR John G, I am flattered to be included on your list, but I must clarify your comment: not a angle note of JUBILEE is "(after Russell Bennett's original)."  It's all my work, and while I had Russell Bennettas my inspiration, I also wanted the show to sound like orchestration by Ravel, Arthur Sullivan, and Elgar.  I have no idea what Russell Bennett's orchestrations remotely sounded like for the original 1935 production; they are lost. JUBILEE was built FROM SCRATCH by Tommy Krasker and me n 1985, and every note in that vocal score is either my vocal or dance arrangement and it's my orchestration in the full score, entirely mine, no one else'.  Beyond the stage directions and cues in the score in Tommy's hand, ever note in both vocal and full score is in my hand.

I had no Bennett scores from 1935 to have a peek at, nor did his ghost appear at my bedside and dictate it to me.  This false information that I was simply restoring Bennett's work was stated in the original 1986 program, written behind my back to my dismay, and perpetrated by Ian Marshall Fisher in his 1999 BBC broadcast. As you can gather, I am thoroughly sick of this false information being perpetrated.

Thanks for the clarification. The orchestrations are a treasure. And I want a real recording of them.

Ditto and Ditto!!

I don't recognize the lady or the bird.  (Now I see there was a problem and you've removed the photos).

I mean the one that starred Jean Simmons.

The orchestrations are the same as the OBC with Glynis Johns, which is the recording I prefer myself.

Okay, let's try this again...
TOD:

Broadway:  "A Little Night Music" as heard on the British cast recording.

Movies:  "South Pacific", "Carousel", "The King and I" and many others by the likes of Edward B. Powell and Conrad Salinger.

Ron, which British cast recording?

This one?

I don't know who orchestrated the Judi Dench version, so it could be the original orchestrations, for all I know.

It was a reduction of the Broadway orchestration.

As I added above, it was the Jean Simmons recording.   I don't care for the vocals on it at all, but the quality of the orchestrations( as the score was recorded) is front and center.  I wish the Broadway cast had been so beautifully recorded. It's not my favorite performance...but the orchestrations really shine on it.

I really like the recording with Sîan Phillips.  The string quintet (I think it's a quintet) is very nice...in my opinion.

TOD - Sunset Blvd... I know it's over scored, but I love that it's lush when it needs to be lush and busy when it needs to be busy.

Ah, that great orchestrator Sir Andrew!  Of course he scored it; it says so in the contract you have to sign.
