TOD - I had an album by Alvin and the Chipmunks. All I can remember about it is that the LP was translucent red.

Greetings, all, and apologies for having been gone missing for so long.

Getting this show open was a beast and a half. Then to have the writer coming as well, whose past history was difficult at best, well, you can imagine. Between rehearsals and blizzards here in Maine, previews, opening, party, and weekend shows, my brain is only now coming back online. Singing everything from "Can't Get Started" to Porgy and Bess" can wear a boy out.

And yes, Opening went extremely well and audiences love the show. We have an ace jazz quartet onstage with us, and who doesn't love the music that Ira Gershwin wrote lyrics for?

I hope everyone has been doing well. I have 3 more weeks in the frigid northeast and then I am outta there.

TOD: My favorite record as a kid was Peter and the Wolf. I'm trying to remember the narrator. I want to say Burl Ives, but I'm not sure that's right. Oh, I think it was Sterling Holloway.

Now you have me wondering who narrated my "Peter and the Wolf". I can almost hear the voice. I know it wasn't Burl Ives. I will ask my older brother if he knows.

When California Music Theatre opened STRIKE UP THE BAND in 1988(89?), Leonore Gershwin gave me a framed sketch by George as an opening night gift. It may be my prized possession.

I found a listing of all the recordings, including the narrator's, of "Peter and the Wolf".

My brother remembers the album but not who narrated it. Looking at the years this was released it would have likely have been Sterling Holloway which was released in 1946.

I'm going to try and find a recording on the internet to listen to a few minutes of it.

I like Dame Edna's version. She also narrates "The Young Person Guide To the Orchestra" - it's a good recording

I have no idea which "Peter and the Wolf" was the first I ever heard, but my first owned LP of it, ordered from the RCA Record Club, was the London Symphony conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent, Lorne Greene narrating.

I watched part of "My Fair Lady" on TCM yesterday and the first thing that I thought of when I read this was Alfred P. Doolittle recorded "Peter and the Wolf"?

And then I listened to the clip.

And we have a bass! Adam Alexander, whom I saw in several opera productions at Manhattan School of Music, will be one of the two basses in the Collegians. We're seeing another person tomorrow for the other spot. We now have six of the seven boys. I'm still waiting on a confirmation from one of the tenors, who's in LITTLE ME, and Jeanne Lehman, who will hopefully play the rich snobby mother of the bitch fiancee.

Big sigh of relief!

I think we're fine. I just hope this Bass we're seeing tomorrow is up to snuff. I think he will be; we saw him last year while we were looking for a leading man. He was good, but not right for the lead.

Excited - just got a ticket to a concert of West Side Story. They'll show the film, which will be accompanied LIVE by the Minnesota Orchestra. I guess the conductor will use some kind of click track system to stay in synch with the film.

It's good to know that my visual aids to my adventures are appreciated! He was so good as Puck in Britten's MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM at Manhattan School of Music, but he doesn't sing; he speaks! I also saw him as Papageno in MAGIC FLUTE; my goddaughter Charlotte was one of the three genii on a scooter in that production.
