DR Jennifer:  Regarding your question of several days ago, "Yes! Even Evgeny Plushenko should not have been skating in the Olympics."  He did not EARN a spot.  And to make it all worse, he withdrew after the team competition and Russia had ZERO skaters in the men's figure skating competition.  Russians were plenty mad about that, too.

I am glad Jennifer asked you to explain-this was interesting and I had initially took your original comments to mean the opposite.

SUPER VIBES FOR DR DAN!!!

When will you know if you are returning to work?

I was perusing the University of Arizona's employment opportunities and found a listing posted by the woman who is in charge of benefits (and who knows all about my illness and leave).  The listing ends on February 28, so I decided yesterday that I would update and spruce up my resume and letter of interest.  By midnight last night, I was ready to upload to the job posting and I'm guessing that sometime by the end of this month I will be contacted.  From what I know of HR practices, if I am selected for an interview, that would occur at the beginning of March.  There are 2 other listings for which I may apply.  However, now that I am back in the mix, even if this particular job posting should not pan out, my resume and information is current on the HR website, and 99% of the HR people know me or know of me, so there may be other opportunities I don't know about at this time.

However, if BK should require my services, I would gladly work for him and relocate to Cal.  I'm always ready for new careers and learning new things.  I am at the point now that I am very happy to be here because last year at this time, my future looked pretty dim.

Crap...I had signed up to usher for the "Forbidden Broadway" tour that's coming to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts on March 14, but I just remembered that that's the night of our union meeting.  I HAVE to go to that, so I can't usher.  Darn. :P

Greetings, all, from the much warmer west coast! So happy to be home from Maine's worst winter ever (said the locals).

I almost didn't make it. Another plane delay out of Portland to Newark, with only an hour window to change planes to begin with.
They said not to wait until today to leave, as I might not get our for four days to a week with two more storms coming in. The voice in my head said, "Run, Forrest, run!!"
And I did. I sprinted when we landed at Newark from gate 109 to 71, and just made the plane. Had no food or water to bring, but I made it. Then the plane sat for an hour delay of its own, because a crew member yanked the door so hard he broke something on the handle.

Anyhoo, a harrowing day, but I'm happy to be in the sun and not wearing ten layers of clothing. Just waiting for my poor car, which hadn't been started in 7 weeks to charge it's battery after a jump. Then, food glorious food. And COFFEE!!  :D

TOD:  I honestly can't remember what I used, but what I do remember most is, whenever I came home from a fresh haircut at the barber's, whatever he used had my hair look great, but it was so hard when it dried, my hair felt like sticks on my head. I kinda liked it.  ;)

Yes, it's hokey, but it's got the great Peter Thomas narrating.  My other favorite narrators are Alexander Scourby (I tried to upload a poem he read, but it's too big a file), and of course Orson Welles, the voice of doom.

You may already know this, but Patty Melt was one of the very few failed characters by Peanuts creator Schulz, aside from Dust Bin.  Manila Folder was the absolute nadir of the entire series, when there was an attempt to enter the Pacific Rim market.

Remember that photo of St. Paul Cathedral that I posted early this morning?  Well, the cathedral grounds are now the site of great construction for "Crashed Ice." Think of it as speed skating on a luge track. This utterly insane local phenomenon starts this weekend.

Here is a video recap from last year's event:
