Yesterday, I had my follow up with the oral surgeon. He thinks everything is healing up nicely, although everything is still quite tender, and the sutures are sharp and cut my tongue every time I try to eat.    :P

Not ready for tacos yet, I guess.  Take care, DR Singdaw!

Yesterday's projects continue.  I've got all the components repositioned, cleaned up, cables untangled and reconnected, and the room already feels so much better.  After this here little break I'll test everything to make sure I've got it all back together properly.  This was long overdue.

I even oiled the furniture -- a wonderful solid oak component rack bought at Rogersound Labs in 1982 -- which was even longer overdue.  It's as beautiful as ever, and I also have a unique solid oak TV stand that held my "good" 25-inch "monitor" for over two decades and is still a great base for the flat-screen TV.  Always loved the look of these and other oak pieces.  Perhaps some photographic evidence is in order.

I loved Rogersound for the unique store-designed/branded items they carried, and for their "affordable mid-high end" philosophy in the electronics they carried.  At least that's how I perceived it then.  They were also a little like the original Trader Joe's in how they'd acquire a quantity of some good but discontinued item from a manufacturer and offer it at bargain prices.  That's how I got my first ever CD player in 1984 and first laserdisc player (a Luxman-branded Pioneer) in 1987.  They also carried their own line of speakers which seemed to have a great reputation for some years, but I never got any.  Ah, memories.

Edit:  Rogersound Labs was a Southern California chain with probably no more than a dozen stores.  They were big in the '70s and '80s, and the last time I was in a store a little after that, they had lost much of what set them apart, and I think shortly thereafter went out of business.  I don't know what BK and others might have thought of them, but they were very good for me.

Happy Saturday, all!

First and foremost: BK, the book cover is gorgeous!! Bravo to you and the artist!

I was in an escapist mood last night, and made the mistake of watching "Thor: The Dark World. Zzzzzz.  Put me right to sleep. Maybe it was just the mood I was in, but I thought, this is the "let's make a mediocre sequel so people don't forget the character" movie. Sheesh. I really have to stop watching that crap.  ::)

The first Heston movie that comes to mind is the original "Planet of the Apes". And the image I always remember is he and the girl on horseback, riding down the beach and finding the half-buried Statue of Liberty in the sand, as he realizes just what happened and where he is.

TOD

As DR Druxy indicated, Charlton Heston is an odd one. in that I can always like him in any movie I'm watching, but he has in no way ever been a favorite actor.  I probably enjoy his "sci-fi/fantasy" films of the '60s and '70s as much as anything, as well as Touch of Evil (in spite of the odd casting).  And of course I enjoy the epics (Ben-Hur, etc.) when in the mood, for all the spectacle and other reasons, but for me the draw isn't Heston himself.  I haven't yet watched the Khartoum disc, and I never saw Peking, so I look forward to experiencing both.

I was thinking about how I said I used to love driving around L.A. on rainy days (I don't mean torrential ones), and trying to juxtapose that with how I like driving around anywhere in rain now.....which is to say, I don't!   :)

The worst thing -- no, there are two worst things:  One is driving in New York City on a rainy day.  Just forget it.  If traffic isn't bad enough on clear days (and of course many times traffic isn't an issue at all), it's a freaking disaster when it's raining.  Everything comes to a standstill, and I have spent long hours starving, or having to pee, or whatever, stuck in rainy NYC traffic.  Nothing is more endless or more miserable.  The other thing is actual traveling, being on the road, and that includes even a one-hour trip such as from NYC to where I live.  Light and intermittent rains are irritating, and heavy ones are just mind-blowingly bad.  They're actually fatiguing.  And I say that as a person who loves driving, both short distances and long.  I guess my youthful days of rainy-day joie de vivre are behind me!

My friend David just headed off to the matinee of ROCKY and we had a lovely 2-hour visit before that. He's stopped in Manhattan on his way to Kentucky on a TV series research project.

He was my best friend in the Miami University Theatre Dept., and when he graduated in 1968, he headed to Manhattan where he worked as costumer Jane Greenwood's assistant at Stratford, CT Shakespeare Festival, and on the Broadway musical 70 Girls 70, assisted Ray Diffin on The Rothschilds, assisted Carrie Robbins on the original production of Grease, and designed the original production of Vanities as well as several Joffrey ballets.  When I spent a week in NYC after a summer working for the Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, I crashed at David's. When I moved here in 1979, he was managing the Murder Ink bookstore, then moved to London to manage the one there.  He's always on the move looking for new things to accomplish. Now h's writing a tv series.

Update: we have decided to put my father into palliative care. They cannot give a timeframe. I will stay for a few more days. Go home and return when the time to say our final goodbyes draws closer.  I do not think I'll be around tomorrow to join in the festivities. Thank you.

Mike, you and your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Count me in for a limited edition tipped-in signature page!  What a great idea.

I don't really know what a tipped-in signature page is, but count me in, as well.

Elmore, I am glad you had a good visit with your old friend.  Sometimes the years just melt away and your freindship can be as fresh as ever.

Thanks for the vibes DR TCB.

Sometimes it feels like I need to wash the entire pool out of my hair.  I shampoo it then put this foamy stuff in to get the chemicals out and then shampoo it again.  What a pain but the pool water has damaged my hair terribly.

I read one story that suspected Jenner was prepping for a sex change.

I went to the mall today with my nieces. There is a lego store opening in a couple of months and Disney had a huge playstation set up in the middle of the mall. Hundreds of kids were playing lego and my nieces did not move for almost an hour. Then they rode the escalators up and down probably 10-20 times. Who knew it was so fun to ride.

I'm glad it is healing.  I'm sorry about the sutures hurting so much.  Did the surgeon look to see if he could file them down a bit?
