This is the first year in ages where I've seen most of the nominated films, thanks to the DGA screeners.  The only major film I didn't see, I think, was 12 Years a Slave, and as brilliant or good as it may be, it is just not my kind of film.  Of the ones I saw, the clear winner, for me, was Philomena.  The Academy, however, will never respond to a film like that over the likes of Slave and Wall Street and Hustle.  Gravity, which I enjoyed, is not in the league of Philomena, but it may just win the prize this evening.

I have talk to several friends in the industry who have not wanted to watch 12 YEARS A SLAVE, which is why I think that GRAVITY will probably win the top award.

Where is the Green Giant statue?

There might be more than one, but I've been to the one in Blue Earth Minnesota.  There is a huge sign as you go south and down the hill toward Le Sueur, Minnesota that says something like "Now entering the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant"  I've always thought the statue should be there

But have you seen the World's Largest Buffalo in Jamestown, North Dakota?

You mean this guy?

Interesting.  I really don't want to watch 12 Years a Slave either

I have just learned that my dear friend and mentor, producer Stanley Rubin died last night.  He was 96.

I would not have had the success I had in the industry were it not for his kindness and support.

If you're not familiar with his credits, they include THE NARROW MARGIN (original), RIVER OF NO RETURN, THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST and WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART.

He also produced TV series like GENERAL ELECTRIC THEATER, THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, BRACKEN'S WORLD and the TV movie, BABE.

It is the same one as your picture, Cilla, but it took me so long to upload the damn thing, I wasn't going to waste it.

If GRAVITY wins tonight, then I think that Steve McQueen may win for best director.  Even though a lot of memebers don't want to watch 12 YEARS A SLAVE, I think they will feel the need to reward the film.

And no, SnoopDoggy, that isn't Steve McQueen for THE GREAT ESCAPE.

Well, Lupita Nyong'o will likely win Best Supporting, but you may be right as far as honoring the whole film
