Pogue, who I enjoy raking over the coals here for leaving us, posted on Facebook that he enjoyed the Oscars. Uh huh. And 0 people have responded or "liked" his post. As always, I say "What is the sound of one hand clapping?"

I figure if I keep it up he'll come here and call me a yahoo or something fun. I encourage him to do so, but he lives and breathes the other place and I'm jiggy with that.

I think the only cohesiveness that the telecast had, notwithstanding the alleged theme of "Heroes" (funny that, since it refers to a revived NBC show on an ABC broadcast), was provided by the music director and orchestra. They even had the good sense to be at another location away from the rotten smell emanating from the Dolby.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and condolences. It's bizarre to be watching the Oscars without my wife Anne.

I have been watching 1 hour behind with the DVR so I can skip most of the annoying commercials.

Ellen is a fine host....many ,many costume changes.

This show is better than last year. I like the hero montages except that 90 percent of the clips are from comic book movies from the last ten years. What happened to an appreciation of film
History? Poo poo on any silent clips - they are going for the ratings, baby! Notice that there no
Clips from Star Wars? Lucas controls all that and won't give permission?

Jared Leto has the best speech of the night. Heartfelt, personal and politically correct.
Good for Spike Jones. I met him once and he is a down to earth nice chap.

Well, the broadcast with commercials was three hours, 34 minutes and 22 seconds (according to my DVD burner). I recorded it to my DVD burner as it was showing so I wouldn't have to use up the space on my DVR. I'm now going to cut out the commercials and see how long the actual show was.

You can place the blame on the director, but more than likely on the producers. I don't think there was ever any consideration for the viewing audience. Ellen is a good host, but she needs direction and material. Bruce Vilanch and Billy Crystal always updated their schtick at the commercial break. The shows flowed well and they were able to adjust as things developed. Tonight, it was like someone was given a big, expensive car, but they forgot they had the wheel. The show just veered off and was not entertaining. There were attempts at making jokes out of things no one at home saw (e.g., Jennifer Lawrence's fall) so we could not participate in the humor, what little there was.

Maybe someone already pointed this out, but at the Red Carpet there was a huge KIMMEL banner mounted on the building across the street. Then the camera pulled back and there was the JIMMY. Oy!

Peter and I went to the Oscars two years ago. It's much more fun to be there live....
When you see it replayed on TV you realize how much they rely on canned applause!
But, that's show biz!

The highlight is sticking around on the red carpet after the ceremony. As people leave
The Governor's Ball, they are stuck there waiting for their limos. It's a great opportunity to meet people. Henry Stanny and I got to talk to Ennio Morricone seven years ago. And two years ago,
Peter Hackman was able to meet John Williams. Bruce -- maybe we should go next year??

The bit in which the Margaret Herrick Library was mentioned made me wish that that was the theme of the show. Not this verruckt "heroes" theme which was less than successful and did not unify any segments of the program.

Yes, let's go next year. The canned applause and laughs is so blatantly obvious - do they think we viewers can't see what they're showing us - people sitting there not applauding, screaming or laughing.
