I remember watching a lot of television at the time of Princess Diana's death. Not that it was an impactful news story like what's going on in the Ukraine right now,, but I was surprised at how much it affected me.


More recently, of course, the events of 9/11 consumed me in print reports and television. Now, I try to avoid video replays on the anniversaries, because they give me nightmares.

Interestingly enough, my two nephews were staying with us at the time all that happened, so we were trying to keep things light and normal around them so they wouldn't worry.  I ended up only getting bits and pieces as I tried to find what was happening and ended up really missing all of that.

Good morning, all! Last night i couldn't get to sleep at all. Welcome to the Fifth Dimension!  I was wide awake at 3am, wondering why I was exhausted but could not sleep. So, i finally did and i had weird dreams about working at Barnes & Noble, or maybe the Drama Book Shop, or Theatre Books, or Theatre Arts Books, with Noah Wylie - I think that's who was knocking over the book carts - and ne with a couple of talking cats. It's good to be on my second cup of coffee and awake.

BK, I'm happy the show went well. Josh Grisetti? Terri White? Two friends I haven't seen in ages. BK, Josh auditioned for Rod in 2007 for "The Brain From Planet X"; I brought him in. He'd just had an operation and could do no lifting. I've known Terri since she was in "Barnum"; one of my best friends from college was Glen Close's dresser, and I had a couple of friends in the cast.

I'm off to market and the bank. I think I will spend the day making vegetable beef soup. Peeling potatoes and carrots is great manual therapy.

The reviews for DEAREST ENEMY yesterday have me pondering the nature of reviewers; some of the ones working as music critics seem qualified as theatre critics and completely untutored or tone-deaf as a music critic. The American Record Guide reviewer, who would be writing with a copy of the CD close to hand, refers constantly to "Kim Cresswell," one reviewer referred to the primary romantic couple as Rachel Kelly and Hal Cazelet when they are the secondary couple. The critic for Playbill.com is more busy knocking the recording for not measuring up to his concept of Rodgers & Hart (the big hits from 1938 to 1941) and writing about himself. He's completely unable to put a show from 1925 into its context with Victor Herbert, Rudolf Friml, Jerome Kern, or Sigmund Romberg.

I couldn't have asked for a better "invitation" to introduce my new 3 character stage play than BK's question today.

When I was 10 years old, my parents brought me on vacation to Hollywood (from Seattle) and while I was there, I vividly recall seeing the newspaper headlines about this event.  Years later, although I never actually met her, one of the principals was a neighbor in my apartment building.

I've been playing around with this story for 30+ years.

B MOVIE is my two-act stage play that dramatizes one of Hollywood's most sordid scandals.

On the CNN documentary "and the Oscar goes to..." the other night, they showed the most delightful clip of presenter Glynis Johns reading an acceptance speech from an absent actor. It was hilarious!
Does anyone know/can anyone remember what year/what actor? I've searched online for the clip and cannot find it.

It will be better tomorrow. I'll begin with one pan for the stock and to cook the meat, and finish with maybe four large pans of soup; I'll freeze a lot of it.

Catching up, and sorry to have missed the great Oscar bash. 

We had our last two shows on Saturday and Sunday evenings, and after Sunday, i slept on and off through most of the Oscars.

As expected, Saturday's late show was well-attended, even more than the opening performance.  But Sunday's 7 pm (on Oscar night) was a small audience mainly of friends and family of all involved, and some of the people from the other shows in the festival came as guests.  But a festival very-high-up who was in that small Sunday-night audience liked it a lot, enough to suggest to us that he'd like to try to arrange to reprise it this summer and adding to it, to make for a longer event.

Oops - it was Hermione Gingold, not Glynis Johns. Still can't find the clip, though.
