Well, this is interesting. An "app" that will allow you to read a novel in 90 minutes.
http://elitedaily.com/news/technology/this-insane-new-app-will-allow-you-to-read-novels-in-under-90-minutes/

Mind you, I'm not saying that this is a GOOD thing. But it is interesting.

That looks pretty cool...and if comprehension increases, that's a good thing.  Reading the original Huffington Post article, it looks like it's only going to be available for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Gear 2 watch.  I have neither.

I personally need to read slower, not faster.  All that blinking won't work for me anyway.

Do you read very fast?

Just got my invite to Rachael Ray's house party during SXSW. A band named Diarrhea Planet is playing. I think I'll pass on that one. I do like the band name No.

What is a Rachael Ray house party? Will she be there?

DR elmore you must have the worst post office in the country.  Too bad you can't have all your mail sent to a private PO Box and then delivered from there to you.

Had a really good work session with Sandy and Lanny and it's full speed ahead on our next album.  Then we had food - I had a chili cheese and onion hot dog and fries.  Really good.

I can.  I used to read much faster with a higher retention than I do now.  I can also speed read, which is even faster,  through the boring parts of a novel.  I can look at a page and pull out the important words so that when I slow down again I haven't really missed anything and can continue to follow the plot.  I can only speed read novels.

If I need to speed read too much of a book I will usually say it isn't worth reading, unless I have to read it for my book group.  I seem to retain enough of those books to discuss them intelligently.

Second this.  It's criminal, the incompetence and utter lack of caring going on there.

That hot dog does sound good!!!

Haven't had a chili/cheese/onion dog in maybe a couple of years.  For my taste, that's one in particular that Nathan's excels at.  I don't usually bother with the cheese, though, because the chili is so damned perfect by itself.  Starving now...

The band name seems especially inappropriate for anything to do with food.

I agree..

In that app, which speed would you say is the closest to how fast you normally read?

Every avid reader I've seen who saw that app says that they would never read that fast. They read to enjoy.

I couldn't tolerate the flashing lights.  I don't think I read that fast.  Bryan can read faster than I ever did and retain twice as much though I'm not sure how fast he can read medical books.

I force myself to slow down when I read and I can no longer tune the world out when I'm reading which does slow me down.  There was a time I could completely concentrate on a book with the tv blasting, no longer.  I now have to put the book down.  When I was young I even read while walking.  Of course I wouldn't even attempt that today even if I could walk and read at the same time.

DR Jennifer I returned to the link and concentrated on ignoring the flashing and was able to read 500 words per minute.  It was fast but ok.  I was very comfortable at the 350 word level.  I wouldn't want this ap and would want to control my speed.  Sometimes I like to re-read a section for clarity or pleasure.

I find the idea of the app very interesting, but it's hard to imagine actually using it to read a book.  I might even be one of the more undisciplined readers around, but I wouldn't trade my actual experience of reading for anything.  (If that sentence makes any sense.)

And now, I'm off to usher for a silent movie!  The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, starring Rudolph Valentino in his breakthrough starring role as the tango-dancing Julio.  It features live organ accompaniment and is always a lot of fun to see!

Be back later!

Star Wars and the two that followed, but most of all Star Wars
The Last Starfighter
Starman
The Star Trek series
Stargate

I must like movies with the word Star in them.

At 1:22PM I received the following notice from UPS:
A LATE UPS TRAILER ARRIVAL HAS CAUSED A DELAY. WE'RE ADJUSTING PLANS TO DELIVER YOUR PACKAGE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

At 2:13 PM they notified me my package had been delivered, but of course that was to Arizona.

I guess UPS doesn't have an actual pre-programmed announcement "We screwed up".

Richard and I went for the opening of the book sale and stayed to help for a couple of hours.  There were a lot of dealers there and Betty and I rang up several 3-figure sales.

The dealers are INSANE at the sales here, and while I don't know them myself, I always see familiar faces from as far back as 15 years ago.  These folks cover sales all over the northeast.

I don't suspect too many of them of being the kind of high end dealers the likes of BK knows and deals with.  Most of these seem to want the shiny new stuff they can zap with their scanners and turn over quickly on eBay.  I think.  Which is fine with me, because for the most part they aren't after the stuff I'm there to seek out.

I usually don't like to be at the sale on opening night because of the dealers, but as president I thought I should be there this year.  My real satisfaction is selling books to families and cute kids.

I forgot about the Star Wars films!

I happen not to be a typical true blue Star Wars fan, but -- as DR George now knows -- I have a certain fondness for the original three films, only one of which I even saw in a theater ("Star Wars", at Century City).

Edit:  (Okay, I did go to see the "special editions" in '97.)
