The mess is hopefully over. There are no leaks coming from the bathroom above me at this minute and the construction folk have left the apartment, after insuring that all of the crap that fell into my sink, bath, and toilet have clogged up nothing. I expect the cleanup will take me the rest of the day and possibly some of tomorrow.  The toilet, sink, and tub are now washed out, and everything in the bathroom with a layer of silt needs to be dusted or wiped with a damp cloth.

I've got a fan blowing in the bathroom to dry up all of the water on the floor so I can sweep and then mop.  When the floors are mopped and dry, I can scour the tub and sink. I have more laundry to do as well, and I will shortly begin that. It's a real mess. I expect  I will have to repeat much of this after the ceiling is repaired.

Tuesday afternoon greetings!  I was up and out of here this morning to go help with book sale clean-up.  Our job today was to pack up all the $1 and under leftovers that are going to a local thrift store.

DR Elmore, I was so sorry to hear about your bathroom disaster yesterday and I'm glad to hear that you're well along in its resolution.

TOD - We occasionally have earthquakes here in Ohio which originate in the New Madrid seismic zone.  One was in the summer of 1980.  I was in the bedroom of my apartment and the dangly drawer pulls on my dresser and chest of drawers all jangled.  Then, just a few years ago between Christmas and New Year's, I was having a quiet morning coffee, felt the house shudder, and heard all the jingle bells that are part of our holiday decor.

Probably the worst natural disaster was when the winds of Hurricane Ike made their way to SW Ohio on Sunday, September 14, 2008.  The actual windstorm only lasted a few hours, but the aftermath of power outages lasted for days.  We were without power until the following Friday afternoon.  The problem was that our power company had sent crews to Texas and Louisiana in anticipation of THEIR damage and it took a while for them to get back here where they were really needed.  Fortunately, we still had water, including hot water, and I still had a workplace to go to where I could charge my phone and commiserate.

Had a meatless Cobb salad and a bagel for the meal o' the day.  Must go do some banking, hopefully pick up some packages, then go visit with Robert A. Harris.

A side note.
She has given up performing in musical theater because during West Side Story she broke her foot and damage her tendons as well. She did fall in love and moved to Madison Wisconsin. She also has basically given up acting as well.

Mike, I'd assume she's given up doing extended runs of shows, because just last week, she was announced for TICK TICK BOOM at the Encores Off-Center Summer Series.

She didn't mention this.

Mike - Did she tell the meeting Prince story in her show?

She didn't mention this either. It might have been more interesting than some of her other patter

Here's the famous tabloid story of when Karen Olivo met Prince (the music star, not Hal Prince) at a Tonys party, when Prince shlepped to the party especially to meet her

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0G--swh_qY

She has an interesting perspective on this in this discussion of the famous meeting.  Many other people would have been thrilled by such a reaction from Prince, but Karen is after all happily married, and one assumes for that reason she felt like Prince was looking at her like a "pork chop" as a result.

Actually she is divorced. She just got engaged to man from Madison with two kids

Hello All:

TOD:

NATURAL DISASTERS:

In January of 1977, Buffalo had one of the worst blizzards on record.

I was working at the time, we were let out early.  I was in Downtown Buffalo.  People were literally falling and sliding down the sidewalks in front of me.  I was headed for City Hall were my Aunt Betty was working.  I couldn't see two feet in front of me.

Two guys in a Four wheel Drive vehicle told me to get in.  I did, they saved my life.  We ended up going to eat at a restaurant (still open), then slept at their office.  Then they drove me home.

I ended up dating one of them.    After a few dates, he told me he was married.  I said "Don't ever call me again".

Dating a married guy was better than what might have happened getting into a car with 2 strange men ;D

Just ate my first leftover in the form of a Corned Beef Sandwich on Rye.

1. Pile the corned beef on the bread to the desired height.
2. Nuke that in the microwave just long enough to recreate the kind of warmth you'd expect to have it served in the corned beef jernt of your choice.  I gave it 20 seconds and both the beef and the bread were perfect.
3. Apply a good deli mustard.
4. Eat.

After I cook a corned beef I trim it of those couple of large areas of fat, which takes a couple of minutes but is so worth it, especially when eaten in sandwich form.  I've never had one in a deli any better than this.

And a job just came through! A very interesting one that will be fun. Don't know how much work yet. Some of the work will be adapting existing charts to fit the size of the orchestra for the concerts in Australia. Some new orchestration as well.   For Faith Prince and Anthony Warlow.

And the bathroom and kitchen floors are mopped. That's one more thing accomplished along with the laundry. It's starting to look more like it did, but my living space still looks like a warehouse. When the floors are dry, I can put the rugs back down and tidy up my living area.

Yes...and if you can put in a word of caution, tell Mr. Warlow his previous recordings have WAY too much reverb and his voice does not need that (so-called) enhancement.

Back from a nice lunch in a Cambodian restaurant.

I had No. 317.   SACHKOR CHA KTIS : Tender beef simmered in curry flavor peanut butter sauce served w/ cooked spinach.  There was also a soup before and a dessert after....a fried banana with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Very nice.
