Watching "The Guys." Sigourney Weaver is just too earnest and noble and stiff in this. Anthony LaPaglia is much better.

Did anyone see this off-Broadway?

DR Ginny - here, Izzy's is an ice cream parlor.       :)

That would be Graeter's in Cincinnati  ;)

Hello, all. Sorry; nothing especially interesting to report.

WHAT!  All out of GNUs?  (I'm attempting a tricky shot: the reverse singdaw!)

On a happy note, a friend of mine stopped by today and brought me a 1946 first edition of Frank Tashlin's The Bear That Wasn't because she knows how much I like classic cartoons and Frank Tashlin's movies.  The string sewing the binding together is coming apart, so I'm wondering if I should have the book conserved.  Otherwise, there's no markings in the book and it wasn't a library copy.  (My copy is not the one depicted in the picture.)

I have a first edition of The Bear That Wasn't in jacket - and signed by Mr. Tashlin - something I got at the last book fair.

I just watched the first episode of Sherlock - now there is a show I can get behind - what fun and just as good as I've heard.

That's a nice addition to the library.  I had heard of the book, but never read it, and now that I have, I love it!  Bruce, when I am financially able, do you think I should try to get my copy repaired, or would it be more expensive than the book is worth?  I don't have a jacketed copy.

It would be more than it's worth.  You can go to abebooks.com and search it - if it's really fraying, you may want to invest in a nicer copy with the dust jacket - hard to find in a great dust jacket - mine has some chips and tears but I wanted it because it was signed.  I just looked - there aren't any really nice copies in jacket.  A couple sound acceptable and rather like mine - it's not an expensive first to get in jacket - the most expensive copy is $170, but there are several for less than that.

Thanks, Bruce!  The book really lifted my spirits and it seems like one that I'd return to again and again.

On this date in 1871, William Holden was the first governor removed by impeachment.  Of course, we are all glad of that because, as a result, he changed careers, and in 1950 starred in the classic noir "Sunset Boulevard".

On this date in 1895, the Lumiere brothers exhibited their first movie to an audience.  As we all know that led to one of the greatest works affixed to celluloid, "Plan 9 from Outer Space".  Thank you frères Lumiere!

Since I have the free trial of Netflix I sampled the first episode of Breaking Bad, which everyone and their mother has told me is the greatest show in the history of television.  Does that happen AFTER episode one?  The actors are good, certainly, but the style is not my favorite and I'm not sure I would want to watch an entire season of this story, let alone two.

I believe there are six seasons of BREAKING BAD.

Getting bug-eyed from proof-reading the barbecue manuscript. I started at the back to get all of the recipes and technical stuff done first, but my mind isn't up to all of that right now.

On this date in 1862, San Marino & Italy conclude the treaty of friendship & cooperation.  Mere days later the pizza slogan wars began, known as the "You’ve Tried the Rest, Now Try the Best" fracas!
