Dear Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. How sad. He was young!

Only 60. I was sure he'd outlive me. And I found the photo in question.

Thanks for all the kind words on the story about Mom. The reporter made one little error that would matter to no one but her old children, ages 58, 55 and 51: My folks have been married for almost 59 years, not 51, as the reporter said. (As if legitimacy still mattered these days.)  ::)

One of the Louisville stations has done a story on my mom. For some reason, they ran a written story rather than including the video. Maybe they'll include the video after it airs tonight. Anyway, here's the story with a number of photos:

Lovely story, John!

DR Jane I would definitely wear a skirt. Unless it is a summer skirt why would you be cold?  You can just change back into your jeans after.

Most of my skirts are summer skirts.  I tried on an old suit today that is supper cute and still fits me, and still looks good.  I would wear it except the skirt it is a bit on the short side.

Do you have black tights that you could wear with it? Or dark nylons.

I have had devastating news. One of dearest Ohio friends, Alan Freeman, has died. Dr Ginny reported it to me this afternoon, and i just tracked down his obituary. I called his family to leave a message and broke down and sobbed on the phone. His last email to me was in October, when i was too caught up in my own msery and unhappiness to do much. He wrote:

Last December I had a cat scan in the ER at Atrium Hospital that revealed a malignant tumor on the right side of my brain (irony). After surgery to try and remove it, radiation  and chemo therapy in the Winter I seem to be surviving Glio Blastoma multiforme Grade 4 an agressive form of brain cancer. Recent MRI's Have shown improvement and no new tumors forming.I tried to call you at Christmas with the news and just left a brief message...

God, how I loved him! Sleep well, my dear friend.

I don't know what possessed me to look at today's hometown obituaries, but that's when I learned of Alan's death.  Even thought I dreaded telling DR Elmore, I'm glad he didn't receive the news alone and via email.  I knew Alan as a student on the campus where my library career began, but had lost touch with him except through Larry.

We did have a nice lunch with DR Elmore and Joey.  Afterwards, we visited a couple of yarn shops in DR Elmore's 'hood, then came back for a rest before JERSEY BOYS.  We saw that show (again) because we know the swing who's playing Bob Crewe this week.

while it was dreadful news I am sure it was the kindest way he could have heard it

I handled it pretty well until I called his home, heard his message, and then lost it. I blubbered something to his family, and then started sobbing. At that point I figured it was better to hang up.

LOL!  This is the second photo Richard took.  In the first, my eyes were closed, so I made this face and he snapped.  He thought asking Jared for a third shot was tacky.

DR Elmore, give it a day or two and call again.  I'm glad you've heard from his daughter.
