And on a happier note (G-natural), Overlord/The Disappearance/Hustle has been ordered!

AND...

One Eyed Jacks (Encore Edition) has arrived!

It's a shocking story until you read this: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/ukraine.asp

And yes, it's still shocking that a few extremist cretins would pass these out, but it's no different than if a few extremist cretins passed them out here - But the story being shared by thousands on Facebook is written specifically to be "shared" there and for the resulting clicks that the sites who are running it get.  That's what Facebook and these kinds of stories is all about and why I absolutely loathe Facebook for any reason other than getting the word out about what folks are up to.

So, I tried filing my taxes a THIRD time...and this time they were ACCEPTED!!  I finally figured out what I did wrong on the form, and got it right.

HOWEVER...I itemized (because of my mortgage, property taxes and union dues), but if I'd done 1040EZ, I would've gotten MORE back!  BUT, I can amend my return and still get the additional $$!! ;D

But you can only do amended on paper and they don't do direct deposit for amended returns. They issue a check. I know because this year we filed an amended return for our 2012 taxes. We were married in 2012 but it wasn't recognized by the Feds so we had to wait to file an amended return. I mailed in the forms and got a letter saying it was accepted and that a check would be issued in 4 to 6 weeks.

Four years ago yesterday, Mr BK, DR CHARLESPOGUE, former DR KURT, and I attended the Indianapolis premiere of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X.

Afterwards we joined the cast at a local bistro....as you can see, MR BK was very popular with the populace.  :D

I'm 5 1/2 hours into Shoah and can only watch 30 minutes or so at a time because of how upsetting it is. This story on Jews in east Ukraine having to register is making me sick to think about:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/04/17/jews-ordered-to-register-in-east-ukraine/7816951/

I thought the world was done with this sort of thing...I guess not. :(

It is terribly concerning.

I really find it so difficult to understand why these things can still occur in this day and age, but as with the guy shooting those people (that he thought were Jews) last week, some people are still hung up on hate and pure ignorance.

BK, thanks for posting the snopes explanation of the situation.

I guess I am one of those that jumped on the  bandwagon too quickly, instead of waiting for it to play out and find out what was what. I usually try to avoid doing such things.

  • Dance, if it makes you happy.

I think the USA Today story explains the same thing that the Snopes story does, albeit packed in so much extraneous detail that you do have to read it closely to figure out what's happening. Still, as MBarnum said, in light of the recent shooting -- and the ridiculous comments that the mayor of that town made -- it's horrifying that anyone would make such comments.

And tying it back to Shoah, several of the witnesses point out that many in Ukraine helped the Nazis.

And I am home from the orchestra reading. What a funny score! The orchestration sounds like a fantasy of every Café-chantant you could imagine, playing everything from a rhumba to mazurka. The accordion player is great, and when he and the guitar and bass take over, it's heaven.

T.O.D.

When I used to stay at the Milford Plaza when I came to New York, there was a Deli in the corner of the Plaza building.  I got the impression over the years that this was more of a corporation-style deli, rahter than an authentic Jewish deli.  Still, I loved their dill pickles on the table, their potato salad, and their mile-high corned beef sandwiches.

My favorite was a sandwich that was half corned beef and half turkey breast.  I could only eat half the sandwich, so I always had breakfast the next day.  I loved that place, but I can't remember the name of it.  It is apparently no longer there.

I ate there once, maybe twice, for convenience back in the '90s.

Are we really living in 2014, or have we somehow stepped back in time?  Frightening!

Tonight is preview or LITTLE WOMEN.  I am very proud of the young people in this production.  I am sure they learned everything they know from my participation in the production.

  • Fish? Or, Abe Vigoda?

In my New York days, and when I never knew a whit (save for Bissell) about gluten, I loved many Jewish foodstuffs.  Among my favorites, I ate many kasha varnishkes, hamentashen, flanken brisket, chopped chicken livers, and matzoh ball soup, and Dr. Brown's celery soda.  Oh how I miss the days of not worrying about gluten!

The senior couple that lived next door to me when I was a wee tot became my "adopted" Jewish grandparents, they were my earliest teachers of reading and walking.  They were great.  Every day I would see them, we would walk to the local corner candy store and they would buy me a Little Golden book.  I had such a collection at one time in my very early age.  By the time I got to First Grade, I was very far ahead of my classmates when it came to "reading readiness" and it's almost all due to my "grandparents" next door.  That, and asking to be read to while on the potty.  But, that's another story. ;D
