That looks very much like my first kitty, Julius Caesar, JC for short.

At work one day, a female co-worker heard me mention my kitty, JC; and was horrified.  She thought he was named for the religious figure.

Funny!

Greetings, all,

I hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday.

I am off to another rehearsal, but this one will be tinged with a very unsettling event. Yesterday we got the news that the composer of the vampire musical was in a fatal car accident a few days back. He was not someone I knew well at all. I only met him a couple of brief times, but he was working on the changes each rehearsal brought. We seem to be going forward with this project anyway.  Perhaps it will be a way to honor him. It just feels terribly odd.

If nothing else, it reminds me that the time we have with those we love is to be treasured. And we should always let them know how much we care for them.

Have a lovely evening, and may you and all of your loved ones stay safe and cherished.

What tragic news.  My sympathies to his family and to the cast and crew of the musical.

And now, I'm off to my parents' house to celebrate my niece's 30th birthday.  Her actual birthday was on Thursday, the 17th, but everyone was off doing different things, so today's the party day.  It'll be very low key and just the families.  She did invite her (very-religiously-conservative and not-very-accepting) father and his family so that she could celebrate with her half-sister.

My niece is gay and doesn't have any problem with it...but her father does.  It's totally his problem.

It is a shame though her father has a problem.  I hope her sister doesn't.

From DR TCB:

the show was really solid tonight.  Everyone really sparkled and the audience (although small) seemed to really enjoy the show and the performances.

I originally missed this good news.

Jane, I really doubt anyone has the old Helm's recipes - the closest I've ever found to a Helm's chocolate donut is Entenmmen's or however you spell it.

Entenmann's (I looked up the spelling) really!  I wonder if I would still love the Helms donuts if I had one today.

No one said anything about having the original recipes, but Sherry Yard is an associate of Wolfgang Puck's and I think we can assume from that that she's quite a skilled chef. They are trying to bring back the old-time flavors and ambiance. How well they succeed is to be determined, but I'm glad to see them attempting it.

Once they're up and running maybe BK will meet me there for a little tasting. I think it'll be fun to check out in any case.

I guess I am feeling okay.  I decided that if being in this show would help these young actors, then I owed it to them and the community to give back.

Larry, does your health insurance/Medicare plan provide any transportation benefits? I just signed up for a plan and was pleasantly surprised to see that included for medical purposes (doctor, pharmacy). It wouldn't cover your trips to Toyland, but might make life a bit easier just the same.

I wasn't aware insurance plans had this option.  It is a good one, especially if you live alone.  Does Los Angeles still have the inexpensive van service for people with a disability?  My sister used it for awhile.  I believe you need to get pre-approved.

One of the lead characters in the script I'm writing for my master's project is named J.C. Don't know why. Maybe because it's letter off J.B. and since I can't forget the bird, eternally shrieking in my ear, I thought I couldn't forget the name J.C. either.

There's a program, but from what I heard it's fraught with problems. Last summer when I couldn't drive I found a private company that was very helpful. They have quite a few regular passengers--seniors who are in pretty good shape but no longer drive--who use it for grocery shopping or trips to the doc. They have a lot of passengers who were disgusted with the government program.

Like all insurance benefits, it's only for medically-necessary trips and there's a limit, but  I think it's a very good idea.
