Finally back from an exhausting rehearsal - I literally had to stop doing book scenes - she crammed all the twelve page book scenes into one rehearsal and I was going berserk - so the designer run has been put back by six days so I'm not feeling so up against the wall. Li'l Abner has several long, long scenes in which a lot of dialogue happens with thirty-five people on the stage. There's nothing you can do but just stick everyone wherever and keep the people in front clear for the dialogue - but when you do all of those in one day, it just feels like you're beating the same dead horse over and over. So, I restaged the first part of the opening number and that was fun and feels right to me. I'd come up with what I think is a clever gag for the first two lines and everyone seemed to think it was fun and funny.
