Greetings, all,

Trouble seems to be brewing everywhere I look these past few days. Lots of difficult tings in the wind. So for now, I just want to send tons of healing and untangling vibes to all who need.

As for the TOD:
I am mostly appalled at the dismissal of common respect for others in our world today. And nowhere is it more apparent than in politics. What happened to civility and communication? Yes, argue fiercely for your cause, but once all the trumpets have been sounded, then find some common ground to move the whole tribe forward in a good way. Compromise is collaboration and vice versa.  Collaboration has now been brushed aside and replaced with an entire network (even a tv network) of lies and condemnation. Calling someone who thinks differently than you, but still wants a good outcome for all an enemy of the state? Truly sickening and deeply unproductive.  Some of us still remember that respect is earned by giving it, thankfully. I choose to keep those people in my circle, and wait for the rest of the world to remember that you do reap what you sow.
It is time to silence the fringe loonies and let those on both sides who know how to work together lead the way again.

I will soon be on my way to the Dress Rehearsal for Dancing With the Putnam County Stars.  It starts at six.  Admission is canned goods for the local food pantry.

I am taking my camera to get some pix of the participants!

Since it's Throw-Back Thursday elsewhere on the Internet, here's my contribution.  It's the staff of the library at Miami University-Middletown at the opening of the 1980-81 academic year.

I've accomplished everything I came to Toyland for, so I can head for the bus.

Good news from DR John G, sad news from DR Ron Pulliam, and curious news from BK.

DR Ginny, some of those faces look familiar, but I was thrown out had left Ohio by 1979. I wonder where that library card is now?

Vibes to all of you who may need them, to DR John G's dad for recovery and good health, and to DR Ron P.'s co-worker, to him and to all those concerned in the very sudden tragedy.

I can appreciate the sudden turn of health as it happened to me.  One day I was a fully-functioning (at least, I thought I was) person going to a daily job, worrying about the relatively mundane affairs and travails we encounter every day.  A few days later, I found out that I had Stage 4 of a very rare cancer that affects less than 5% of all cancer patients.  But here I am, on the other side and I have learned to put those daily worries in their proper context.

I had a visit with my oncologist yesterday.  She and her colleague, whom I saw a few weeks back and had posted a pic, both agreed that I am now well enough to go through the preliminaries for surgical repair of my rather large ventral hernia.  That was the result of the life-saving surgery I had last year to remove cancer and resolve my sepsis condition.  So, at that time, leaving a "pretty" scar and making sure everything was put behind a mesh, was the least of the concerns.  Perhaps, now I have reached another milestone in my recovery.  I am to meet with the surgeon on May 12.

DR Elmore, the people standing in the back row are Charlotte, Lynn, Joanne, and Mildred.  Mary is seated next to me.  I've left out last names to protect their privacy.  You would have known all but Lynn.  I hired him to replace me when I became director shortly after you left Middletown.

DR Dan M - any surgery is of course a concern, but it does sound like things are moving in the right direction. Glad you have the good news and that your doctors are positive.

Well, two, possibly three, of them are no longer living, but I'm taking no chances...

I have absolutely no motivation today for the writing that needs to be done for this month's AAUW newsletter.

TOD:

I am dismayed by the laxity of so many standards. I find errors in most of the newspaper articles I read. Software updates are buggy. Does no one care?

I agree with the other concerns stated, as well.

And, yes, it's often difficult to stay positive.
