If those nominators say close but no cigar
The chances are: That guy’s a big star
If the fellow’s fame the world over makes committee members all sneer
If his grosses rolling in clover makes them act like he isn’t here
If those nominators ignore his repertoire

If the crowds pursue him, and press people woo him
The Tony folk view him as sub-par
If the guy is someone critics give a hand for
Someone tourists pay a grand for
Somehow the committee acts bizarre
He’s a genuine, wonderful, down-to-earth, talented
Perfect but Tony-free star!
